Times of Dubai publishes news, analysis, guides and reviews for readers in Dubai, the UAE and the wider region. Our editorial standards are designed to make every article accurate, clearly sourced, useful and distinct from material available elsewhere.
Accuracy and Verification
- Writers and editors verify names, dates, figures, quotations and other material facts before publication.
- For laws, government services, public notices, event details, company results and research data, we prefer the relevant official document or primary source.
- Headlines, images and social posts must accurately reflect the article and must not exaggerate what the evidence shows.
Sources and Attribution
Material claims must be connected to an identifiable, credible source. When a primary source is available online, the article should link to the exact announcement, report, dataset, filing or official page. Links to a general homepage are not a substitute for the underlying source.
Quotes and information obtained from another publisher are clearly attributed. When another news organisation first reports a development that we have not independently confirmed, we credit that outlet and link to its report. Anonymous sources are used only when the information is important, the source has direct knowledge, and an editor understands and approves the reason for anonymity.
Original Reporting and Reader Value
Times of Dubai does not publish an article simply by rewriting or paraphrasing another article. Every story must add useful editorial value through original reporting, a direct interview, first-hand observation, local UAE context, data analysis, a practical explanation, comparison, expert interpretation or a clearly defined new angle.
Press releases and promotional material are treated as sources, not finished journalism. Editors identify the source, verify central claims where possible, remove unsupported promotional language and add context that helps the reader assess the information.
Overlapping and Updated Topics
Writers search our archive before commissioning or publishing a story. A new article about an existing topic must cover a meaningful new development or serve a clearly different reader need. It should link to relevant earlier coverage and explain what has changed. When two pages substantially answer the same question without distinct value, editors review them for consolidation so readers and search engines have one clear, authoritative version.
Independence, Conflicts and Sponsored Content
- Advertisers and commercial partners do not control newsroom conclusions.
- Paid or sponsored material is clearly labelled so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial coverage.
- Writers and editors disclose material conflicts of interest to the editor responsible for the article.
- Reviews express the named writer’s independent assessment and explain the basis for that assessment.
Use of Artificial Intelligence
Digital tools may assist with research organisation, transcription, translation or drafting. They do not replace source verification or editorial judgment. A human editor remains responsible for the accuracy, originality, tone, attribution and publication decision for every article. Unverified machine-generated claims, quotations or citations must not be published.
Corrections and Reader Feedback
Confirmed factual errors are corrected promptly. Material corrections include a dated note explaining what changed. Minor spelling, grammar and formatting changes may be made without a note when the meaning is unchanged. Read our Corrections & Clarifications policy for details.
