Abu Dhabi drivers who have been getting traffic fines can now get a new lease of life. A one-time initiative by Abu Dhabi Police gives motorist the opportunity to erase up to eight black points from their records or even recover suspended licences. The initiative runs through November 2025 and can make a big difference to the thousands with accumulated penalties.

For those who’ve seen their black points accumulate throughout the year, this program is something more than waiting it out. Rather than having points linger on your record for a year, Abu Dhabi drivers have the option to clean their record much more quickly.

Two Clear Options for Abu Dhabi Drivers

The program splits into two tracks based on how many black points you’re carrying.

11 Dubai AI Traffic Camera Violations Rules 2025 Impact Roads

If you have fewer than 24 black points:

  • Show up at Mushrif Mall for traffic awareness workshops
  • Pay AED 800 to register
  • Attend the safe driving course in person
  • Get 8 black points removed right away
  • No shortcuts, you must physically attend

If you’ve hit 24 or more black points:

  • Sign up for the full rehabilitation program
  • Pay AED 2,400 for license reinstatement
  • Complete all required training
  • Your suspended license gets restored
  • You’re back on the road legally after finishing.

That second option matters especially for Abu Dhabi drivers who’ve crossed the 24-point mark. Normally you’d face three to six months without a license, which makes getting to work or handling daily errands nearly impossible.

How the Black Points System Actually Works?

Black Point System

Every time Abu Dhabi drivers are found guilty of serious traffic violations, black points are added against them. The mechanism is present all across the UAE, though Abu Dhabi Police handle enforcement within the capital area.

Different infractions have different point values. Minor infractions like not wearing your seatbelt cost you four points, and reckless maneuvers like unsafe driving can slam you with 23 points at one time. Those points are still good for exactly one year from when you were issued the infraction

Things get serious here: once Abu Dhabi drivers reach 24 black points in a twelve-month timeframe, automatic suspension. The first suspension is three months.

Where and When to Participate?

The whole campaign is from October 20 until November 20, 2025, and there are plenty of chances for Abu Dhabi drivers to visit. Sessions are held at the Abu Dhabi Police booth inside Mushrif Mall on the ground level. Timing works for busy schedules too, workshops run daily from 4pm until 10pm.

There is no virtual edition or online attendance allowed. Such in-person setup ensures Abu Dhabi drivers truly learn traffic safety instead of simply passing through some online quiz.

Workshops encompass the real things you face every day: UAE traffic laws, what occurs when you break them, defensive driving skills, and seeing into potential threats before they become a danger. The instructors focus on real scenarios Abu Dhabi drivers face day in and day out, driving on crowded highways, handling aggressive lane cutters, handling sudden braking.

Why Abu Dhabi Drivers Should Care?

Black points affect way more than just your ability to drive. Insurance companies check your black points record when setting your rates, so violations directly hit your wallet through higher premiums..

Cash piles up fast. Traffic tickets start at AED 400 for minor violations but can go as high as AED 20,000 or more for major violations. Add to the black points which may suspend your license permanently, and the cost becomes unrealistic

Blowing AED 800 or AED 2,400 on this course might seem like a fortune, but Abu Dhabi drivers who participate tend to save thousands over the years. Reduced insurance costs, evading repeat penalties, keeping their jobs, these savings really add up quickly.

Most Common Violations to Avoid

Understanding what triggers black points helps Abu Dhabi drivers stay clear of trouble moving forward:

  • Mobile phone use while driving: 4 black points + AED 800
  • Running red lights: 12 black points + AED 1,000
  • Extreme speeding (over 60 km/h above limit): 12 black points + AED 2,000
  • Tailgating: 4 black points + AED 400
  • Sudden lane changes: 4 black points + AED 1,000
  • No seatbelt: 4 black points + AED 400

Recent crackdowns have focused on sudden road stops, stopping your car mid-traffic without good reason now costs AED 1,000 and six black points. Abu Dhabi drivers should avoid pulling over randomly since it creates dangerous situations and carries heavy penalties.

This opportunity won’t last forever. While Abu Dhabi Police has run similar programs earlier in 2025, chances to clear black points only pop up occasionally. The November window represents a critical moment for affected Abu Dhabi drivers.
