Today Dubai is making a major advancement towards future urban transport systems. The official introduction of Baidu Apollo Go’s first autonomous RT6 taxis marks the beginning of Dubai’s first driverless testing program which His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has declared. The city has established this innovative initiative as part of its plan to achieve 25 percent driverless transportation system by the year 2030. The Baidu First Autonomous RT6 Taxis vehicles function as complete vehicles which transform traditional transportation systems within the emirate. People who live in the area and visitors to the city will soon be able to experience a futuristic transportation system which operates in public from the first quarter of 2026.

Advanced Technology Behind the New Driverless Fleet

The arrival of Baidu Apollo Go’s first autonomous RT6 taxis brings world-class technology to the local streets. These vehicles are designed by Baidu Apollo Go. The RT6 taxis differ from typical vehicles because they employ an advanced system which incorporates more than 40 sensors that include LiDAR and radars and high-resolution cameras for mapping the environment together with HD maps and deep learning artificial intelligence which operates through proven technology that Baidu has tested across 150 million kilometers and 10 million rides. The system enables the vehicle to identify objects and pedestrians as well as other cars from extended distances. The system processes data to enforce traffic regulations, which results in a secure travel experience for all passengers.

The autonomous RT6 taxi system provides passengers with an environment that promotes their complete relaxation and comfort. The cabin of the vehicle features a spacious design that includes large touchscreens that allow passengers to control music and temperature and track their routes through live updates. Every passenger who uses the service will receive an exceptional experience that transforms regular travel into high-end transportation.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) considers safety to be its primary focus throughout this launch event. The First Autonomous RT6 Taxis have undergone extensive testing in Dubai, including a demo ride by Sheikh Hamdan to Madinat Jumeirah (Baidu’s new 2,000 sqm ops center supports via command/sim/maintenance). The AI system is programmed to follow all traffic rules strictly without any human error. This means the car will never speed or break a red light. By introducing these first autonomous RT6 taxis, the city aims to reduce traffic accidents significantly over the next few years.

Key First Autonomous RT6 Taxis Features:

  • Sensors: 40+ (LiDAR up to 300m, radars/cameras for 360° detection).
  • Global Proof: Baidu’s 150M km tested, 10M trips.
  • Infrastructure: Dubai Science Park ops center (command, sims, maintenance).
  • Electric & Smart: Optimizes routes for efficiency.

How the New Taxi Service Benefits the Community

The launch of Dubai’s first autonomous RT6 taxis will make the city much more connected and efficient. You will be able to hail these cars using a simple smartphone application (via RTA/Apollo Go app, Q1 2026).

The car will arrive at your location and take you to your destination using the smartest route. This helps in reducing traffic congestion on busy roads like Sheikh Zayed Road. These fully electric vehicles also help in keeping the air clean. This supports Dubai’s vision of becoming a sustainable and green city for future generations.

Investors and tech experts are watching this development closely as it sets a global standard. Being home to Dubai’s first autonomous RT6 taxis proves that the UAE is a leader in global innovation. The project also creates new high-tech jobs through Baidu’s Dubai operations center. Many believe that this is only the beginning of a much larger network of driverless transport – potentially up to 1,000+ vehicles. Soon, we might see autonomous buses and delivery vans working alongside these smart taxis.

As the fleet grows, more neighborhoods will gain access to these first autonomous RT6 taxis. The system will provide essential transportation services to elderly residents and people of determination who require dependable transport solutions. The system serves all users because it combines simple operation with maximum security features. Dubai demonstrates its status as a future city through its ongoing development projects. The national pride of the country reaches new heights with the launch of Baidu Apollo Go’s self-driving RT6 taxi service. Prepare yourself to enter a self-driving vehicle which will take you on a peaceful and secure journey through the scenic parts of the city.
