The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has officially announced the regulations for Ramadan school hours across Dubai’s private schools. As the Holy Month approaches, the government is taking steps to ensure that students and teachers can balance their education with their religious observations. These new rules aim to reduce the physical burden on those who are fasting while maintaining a high standard of learning. Families across the emirate have welcomed the news as they begin to prepare for the change in their daily routines.

Reduced Timings and Flexible Schedules

The new guidelines require private schools to limit their Ramadan school hours to a maximum of five instructional hours which they must complete within a single school day. Most schools are expected to start their sessions between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM and conclude by 1:00 PM or 2:00 PM, with Fridays ending no later than 11:30 AM to accommodate Jumu’ah prayers. The school hours for Ramadan have been reduced, which enables students to reach their homes earlier for rest and family time before Iftar. Schools have the authority to determine their operational hours through parent consultation as long as they maintain five-hour educational sessions.

The KHDA requires schools to limit their lesson content to essential subjects because they need to conduct their classes within restricted time frames. The school will reduce homework requirements during this time period to provide students with additional time for religious activities and necessary rest. The authority has implemented Ramadan school hour changes to support community health needs. The educational process will proceed without interruptions because this arrangement protects the fasting requirements of participants.

Support for Fasting Students and Staff

The school must create specific health and safety protocols that exceed the new Ramadan school hour changes. Fasting students are officially exempt from Physical Education (PE) classes and any strenuous outdoor activities, with alternative activities provided. Schools should establish designated quiet spaces that students can use to rest during their break periods when they experience fatigue. The school environment remains a supportive space for all students under shortened Ramadan school hours, although non-fasting students must show respect to their fasting classmates.

The updated Ramadan school hours will assist teachers and staff because they can balance their work responsibilities with their religious observances. The KHDA requires schools to maintain educational standards during reduced Ramadan school hours because they must deliver high-quality education. Schools should host cultural events that demonstrate Ramadan values like kindness and charity to their students. The updated Ramadan school hours demonstrate the UAE’s dedication to fostering tolerance and respect while supporting the needs of its multi-cultural student community.
