Dubai- UAE: The government of Dubai has given a stern instructions to all hotel properties within the Emirate informing them that no guests must be evicted since the travellers are grappling with massive cancellation of flights and disruptions in air travel. This is a directive of the Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) of the city of Dubai, which reflects the allegiance of the city to ensure refuge and accommodations to tourists in case of recent unforeseen incidents.

Directive Interpreted: No Guests Must Be Evicted

The DET emphasized that no guests must be evicted without providing any justification other than the fact that they could not leave the hotel premises in time because of the travel inconveniences. Hotels have been requested to provide extensions of stay at the same terms as the initial bookings of the guests without any extra fee or fines.

This is a firm position that no visitors must be evicted just to make sure that stranded travellers are at ease and they have somewhere to stay in case of unforeseeable events beyond their power.

Support Arrangements To Stranded Travellers

The directive goes an extra mile by asking hotels to inform the DET within a reasonable time in case a guest is not able to afford the expenses incurred due to extension of his or her visit. Under such circumstances, hotels should give information such as the initial number of days to be spent, the number of additional days and the financial support of the traveller by third parties.

The instructions of no guests must be evicted from the hotel is more general support of the government efforts that have been initiated due to the cancellation of flights in the Gulf and Middle East, which involve over 1,500 flights. Some of the UAE airlines were halted to and out of the country as a result of increased geopolitical tensions.

Hotel authorities have received the order with positivity promising to do so in all aspects. The head of one of the industry players remarked that hotels already operate to full capacity and they will maintain the value of no guests must be evicted when travellers are forced to delay their travel. Even some properties have made an obligation not to increase room rates under such extraordinary circumstances.

It is a strategy that puts emphasis on the factor of hospitality and humanitarian response in Dubai particularly during periods of disruption.

Wider UAE Response

The policy of Dubai corresponds to the similar practices in the other emirates. The Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi has instructed hotels to lengthen the stay of the affected guests, where authorities would pay the extra charges in case the travellers are unable to pay them. In addition to that, the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in the UAE declared that they will support stranded passengers, such as paying accommodation and sustenance.

The Implications Of This To Travellers

Within the no guests must be evicted edict:

  • Hotels need to permit travellers to take extension of charge without limit.
  • There is no guest who can be ordered to move out because of the inability to afford extra nights.
  • Hotels also need to make timely communication with authorities in case of non-payment by guests.

The measures will provide security and stability to visitors that will have been caught in disruptions of their travels due to no fault of their own.
