UAE Public Holidays 2026: A Detailed Guide to Your Yearly Leave and Long Weekends
SHARE

Understanding the UAE public holidays 2026 enables you to plan your travel, rest time, and family gatherings effectively throughout the year. The government has established 12 official holidays for the year, which create regular work breaks that apply to both public workers and private employees. The upcoming months will show all holiday observance details and their upcoming holiday schedule.

The Mechanics of the UAE Holiday Calendar

The UAE holiday system uses a special combined system. It combines fixed dates from the Gregorian calendar with lunar-based dates from the Islamic Hijri calendar. The Gregorian dates for holidays which include New Year’s Day and National Day will remain fixed because they were established months or years ago. Islamic holidays depend on moon sightings which require official confirmation through the moon-sighting committee and UAE government. Astronomers create accurate holiday predictions yet official confirmation from the UAE government and moon-sighting committee arrives only days before the holiday starts.

Confirmed and Predicted Holiday Schedule

The complete list of UAE public holidays 2026 shows upcoming holiday dates which follow federal laws for annual leave planning.

  • New Year’s Day: January 1 (Thursday) – The New Year holiday begins on January 1 which is a Thursday according to the schedule, which has already passed.
  • Eid Al Fitr: March 19 (Thursday) – March 22 (Sunday). A four-day vacation period has been guaranteed which gives people a large opportunity to travel during the period of pleasant weather.
  • Arafat Day: May 26 (Tuesday).
  • Eid Al Adha: May 27 (Wednesday) – May 29 (Friday). The weekend after this holiday brings a total of six days which create a lengthy “bumper” break.
  • Islamic New Year: The holiday is expected to occur on Tuesday June 16 but will probably start on June 15 which is the beginning of the week.
  • Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (PBUH): Predicted for Tuesday, August 25, with the holiday likely adjusted to the start of the week (August 24).
  • National Day: December 2 (Wednesday) – December 3 (Thursday). These fixed dates are the final celebrations of the year and often feature extensive festivities across the Emirates.

Strategic Planning for Long Weekends

The 2026 calendar demonstrates its aesthetic appeal through its planned distribution of holiday breaks. The government protects employee rest time by moving Islamic religious holidays from midweek to Monday which enables employees to have longer breaks that do not disrupt their work schedule. Residents can use the Eid Al Adha holidays as a single extended break which enables them to schedule both domestic and international travel.

Important Regulatory Notes

The UAE public holiday law grants local governments power to establish extra public holidays because of special events or community gatherings which create special needs. UAE Public holidays 2026 which occur on weekends do not usually shift to the next working day but the 2026 holiday schedule completely avoids this situation because no major Islamic holidays will coincide with fixed Gregorian holidays or regular weekends.

Stay Updated via Official Channels

You should first check with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation and the state news agency WAM before you book non-refundable travel because astronomical predictions are mostly accurate. The official sources will provide you with the latest information about UAE public holidays 2026 changes that may occur because of the regional situation.
