Dubai Police have issued a warning over a rise in fake travel offers targeting UAE residents as the summer holiday season begins. Authorities said fraudsters are using fake websites, social media advertisements, and impersonated travel agencies to lure travelers with heavily discounted flight tickets, hotel bookings, and holiday packages, resulting in financial losses and disrupted vacation plans.
The warning comes as part of the ongoing “Be Aware of Fraud” campaign led by the Anti-Fraud Centre at the General Department of Criminal Investigation. Authorities say cybercriminals are increasingly exploiting the busy vacation season by advertising fake travel packages, hotel reservations, and airline tickets at heavily discounted prices to lure victims into making quick payments.

According to Dubai Police, incidents of electronic fraud linked to travel and tourism tend to increase during holiday periods, particularly during the summer months when residents actively seek affordable vacation options for families and friends.
Fraudsters Exploit Summer Travel Demand
Scammers often create professional-looking websites and social media accounts that closely resemble those of legitimate travel agencies and tourism companies. These fraudulent platforms promote attractive travel deals, luxury hotel stays, and international flight tickets at prices significantly lower than market rates, tempting consumers to act without verifying the authenticity of the offer.
“The aim is to lure victims into transferring money quickly before the fraud is discovered,” Dubai Police said in its advisory. Authorities noted that fraudsters frequently use convincing branding, logos, promotional images, and fake customer reviews to make their offers appear genuine and trustworthy.
Investigators revealed that many scammers impersonate licensed travel agencies and reputable tourism companies, making it difficult for consumers to distinguish between legitimate businesses and fraudulent operators.
How Fake Booking Scams Target Victims
In some cases, victims are contacted directly through messaging applications, emails, or phone calls and are pressured to complete bookings immediately.
Fraudsters often claim that special discounts are available for a limited time or that only a few seats remain on a flight, creating a false sense of urgency. This tactic is designed to prevent potential victims from taking the time to verify the offer or consult official sources before making a payment.
Dubai Police said many victims only discover the deception after transferring funds. In numerous cases, airline tickets and hotel reservations are never issued or remain unconfirmed despite payment being made. Some travelers only realize they have been scammed when they attempt to check in for a flight or arrive at a hotel and discover no booking exists under their name.
These incidents can result in significant financial losses and cause major disruptions to travel plans, family holidays, and business trips.
Authorities noted that fake websites often mimic genuine booking platforms, while fraudulent social media advertisements continue to attract users with promises of luxury vacations at unusually low prices.
Dubai Police Shares Safety Tips for Travelers
Dubai Police are urging residents to remain vigilant and carefully evaluate travel offers that appear too good to be true. The force stressed the importance of booking holidays only through accredited and licensed tourism companies operating within the UAE or through trusted official online platforms.
The department also advised consumers to thoroughly verify website addresses before entering personal or financial information. Cybercriminals often design fake websites that closely imitate genuine booking platforms, with only minor differences in spelling, domain names, or web addresses that can easily go unnoticed.
Residents have been warned against transferring money to personal bank accounts or unfamiliar payment channels, as legitimate travel companies generally use official corporate accounts and secure payment systems. Dubai Police also emphasized that bank card details, passwords, one-time passcodes, and security verification codes should never be shared with untrusted individuals or websites.
As online fraud continues to evolve, authorities are encouraging members of the public to report suspicious travel offers, fake websites, or scam attempts through official channels. Victims and concerned residents can file reports through the e-Crime platform or contact Dubai Police by calling 901 for non-emergency assistance.
With summer travel demand expected to remain high in the coming weeks, Dubai Police said public awareness remains the strongest defense against cyber fraud. Officials urged travelers to exercise caution, verify all bookings through trusted sources, and avoid rushing into deals that promise unusually large discounts.
The warning serves as a reminder that while attractive holiday offers may seem tempting, taking a few extra minutes to verify a booking could prevent costly financial losses and ensure a safe and stress-free vacation.
