UAE’s New E-911 Highway to Span 68km With Up to 16 Lanes

E-911 Highway Corridor: UAE’s 68km Fourth Highway Expansion

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has announced the tendering of the Fourth Federal Highway Corridor (Route E-911), which will be built in the Northern Emirates.

The route is estimated to be about 68 km long and connect the Dubai-Sharjah border to Ras Al Khaimah. It will include up to 16 lanes in some sections.

The highway project will require billions of dirhams and is among the largest projects in the UAE’s road infrastructure.

Everything from Surveys to Supervision

The tender requires consulting firms to perform route studies that will help construct an alternative road to ease traffic congestion.

They will carry out traffic growth studies, environmental impact assessments, and utility NOC inspections along the proposed route.

The design will involve constructing an 8 km road link in Umm Al Quwain to connect with Emirates Road (E-611) to provide an alternative route to relieve the traffic of local roads around the city.

The new road alignment will offer a high-capacity route to divert traffic away from residential areas while also shortening the distance of daily travel for many motorists.

Multi-Lane Configuration to Relieve Pressure on Key Arteries

The initial engineering scope shows that the E-911 highway corridor is set to have between 12 and 16 lanes at its widest points in the suburban bottlenecks.

Once opened to traffic, the new road will form the fourth north-south route, together with the E-11 (Al Ittihad Road / Sheikh Zayed Road), the E-311 (Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road), and the E-611 (Emirates Road).

Authorities reasoned that a fourth north-south road would take more pressure off the existing routes and free up the congestion due to redistributed traffic flows, particularly during peak hours.

Direct Link from Dubai Border to Ras Al Khaimah

By creating a direct connection avoiding the heart of Sharjah, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain, the highway will significantly reduce the time it takes to get from Dubai to Ras Al Khaimah.

The highway will have modern grade-separated interchanges, intelligent traffic management systems, and large truck-only lanes to ensure that lightly loaded vehicles can maintain the maximum speed in a high traffic area. In addition, key junctions will provide a link to local residential communities and logistics parks to the national road system.

Supporting National Growth and Regional Logistics

In line with the UAE’s developing infrastructure master plan designed to meet the rising demands of both demographic and commercial activity, the development is set to accommodate the region’s growing needs.

Authorities believe that the E-911 corridor will promote trade connections between business districts while linking to major ports and suburban housing schemes in the Northern Emirates.

Construction schedules will be finalized after the completion of technical designs and consultancy works.
