June 27, 2025 | Abu Dhabi, UAE: In a step full of compassion and urgency, the UAE is taking initiatives to establish a federal fertility centre not just as a healthcare facility, but as a symbol of care for every Emirati who dreams of starting a family. With the Emirati birth rate declining year after year, this national effort sends a powerful message: you are not alone.

The UAE fertility centre is being created for the young couple sitting in silence after another failed pregnancy test, for the newlyweds unsure where to turn when months pass with no news, and for the future parents who just need guidance, support, and someone to say, “We’re here with you.”

At a recent session of the Federal National Council (FNC), Minister of Family Sana Suhail confirmed that work on the centre has begun. Feasibility studies are underway, and the aim is to integrate fertility services and reproductive counselling into everyday healthcare, making support available in clinics close to home, not just in specialised hospitals miles away.

A Drop in Births, But Not in Hope

Between 2015 and 2022, the number of Emirati birth rate decline by 11 per cent. It does not stand out as headlines or a sensational news but deeply affects the hearts and futures of thousands of Emirati families. In 2022 alone, only 30,889 Emiratis were born, while births among expatriates rose to over 65,000.

This data does not showcase the stories behind them about the couples who had to wait too long to enter parenthood, to get appointments, who couldn’t afford treatment, or who were simply too overwhelmed to begin.

This is why the UAE fertility centre matters. It’s about building a system where no Emirati is left to struggle alone with infertility. It’s about making care accessible, emotionally sensitive, and part of everyday life not something hidden in silence or shame. Minister Suhail put it clearly: “Fertility and reproductive health are not side topics. They’re central to our future.”

Supporting the Full Journey to Parenthood

The UAE fertility centre – won’t just offer medical solutions like IVF or hormone treatments. It will offer something much deeper to control Emirati births decline. From early counselling to emotional support after treatment, the centre will be designed around real-life experiences of Emiratis, those who are just beginning to think about parenthood, and those who have been trying for years.

Young people nowadays are facing new challenges. The average age of marriage is rising, career stress is heavier, and many feel unprepared for the demands of family life. For women, the biological clock keeps ticking but without any guidance, they may not know what support exists until the best time is gone.

IVF TREATMENT

The UAE fertility centre will step in early. It will inform young adults about reproductive health before problems arise, creating awareness in schools, universities, and workplaces. Local clinics will also be equipped to provide early screening, emotional counselling, and referrals making fertility a part of normal health check-ups, not something to hide or delay.

And importantly, the centre is being planned with the Northern Emirates in mind, where fertility care is often hardest to access and most expensive. The goal is to make this support equal and available for all citizens, no matter where they live or what their income is.

A Culture That Cherishes Parenthood

The UAE’s efforts go beyond medicine. A new national strategy is being developed, one that includes financial, emotional, and social support for Emiratis who want to start or grow their families.

From longer maternity and paternity leave, to reassessing housing policies and family allowances, the government is listening. They’re hearing from mothers who returned to work too soon, from fathers who felt unsupported, and from couples who postponed having children due to the high cost of living.

The message is clear: the UAE fertility centre is not a bandage. It’s part of a larger promise to build a society where starting a family feels like a joy, not a burden. The government is planning to launch a community campaign all across the country to change the perspective. Parenthood does not remain a personal milestone to anyone; it’s a celebration, a commitment to the future. The UAE wants every citizen to feel proud, confident, and supported in making that decision.

“We’re not just setting up another clinic, We’re creating a culture that truly nurtures life—from its very first dreams to its first heartbeat,” said Suhail, her voice carrying the weight of thousands of unspoken hopes.

And as this culture of care takes root, it will grow alongside the families it uplifts. The UAE fertility centre will not just be a place of treatment, but a quiet, steady symbol of something much deeper — that every statistic hides a beating heart, every struggle hides silent courage, and every hopeful couple is surrounded by a country that believes in their future, and stands beside them as they build it.
