Ascot Racecourse was set up in 1711 by Queen Anne. The Queen observed that the stretch of land was perfect for horse racing when she was out riding from Windsor Castle. A four-day meeting held at Ascot in 1768 was the first, after which all races held there came to be popularly named Royal Ascot.
This course’s entries go on the whole year-round racing calendar, with 26 days of racing at Ascot a year, including the five days of Royal Ascot. It is the premier flat meeting in Europe and features eight Group 1 races and a total of 19 Group races. Crowds of varying nuances, ranging to about 300,000 attendees over the five days, get in front of the television sets across more than 200 territories, reaching 650 million homes in total.
The racecourse is served with the best racing in the world, sporting location facilities for production purposes-film and TV alike. The land on which Ascot Racecourse sits is leased from the Crown Estate (adjacent to Windsor Great Park), covering 179 acres.
