The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai have introduced a new digital passport system for Indian citizens living in the UAE. From today, all Indian passport applications in the UAE will be issued with Chip Embedded Passports For Indians. This update is part of the upgraded Global Passport Seva Programme called GPSP 2.0.

The new chip embedded passports for Indians store personal data securely in a microchip. This makes travel safer and smoother at immigration checkpoints worldwide. The embedded chip follows global biometric passport standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). This ensures that Indian passports now meet the same modern standards used by many countries.

The Indian missions said the GPSP 2.0 platform will also digitize much of the application process. Applicants must submit all passport requests online through the upgraded portal. This applies to new passports, renewals, and other related services. The goal is to reduce waiting times and improve application accuracy with fewer errors.

How to Apply for Chip Embedded Passports for Indians?

The Indian Embassy and Consulate in the UAE have shared a clear step-by-step guide for applying for the new chip embedded passports for Indians. First, applicants must register on the official GPSP 2.0 online portal. After creating an account, they can fill in the passport application form and submit it online.

Once submitted, applicants print the form and book an appointment at one of the authorized BLS International centers. BLS International is the official service provider for Indian passports and visas in the UAE. On the appointment day, applicants must visit the center with their printed form and all required documents.

New features in this system include the ability to pre-upload the applicant’s photo, signature, and other documents to the portal. This helps reduce the waiting time at BLS centers since most of the document verification happens beforehand. The photo must meet ICAO standards, which have been mandatory for Indian expats in the UAE since September 2025.

The GPSP 2.0 platform also allows authorized staff at the BLS centers to make minor corrections in applications free of charge. Earlier, applicants had to completely redo forms for even small mistakes. This change saves time and effort for applicants applying for chip embedded passports for Indians.

Why This Upgrade Matters?

For the large Indian community in the UAE, this upgrade to chip embedded passports for Indians brings many advantages. The embedded chip technology aligns Indian travel documents with international security standards. This not only makes the authentication process stronger, but it also lowers the chances of forgery or duplication occurring.

The transformation of the passport process from physical to digital results in a significant reduction of paperwork and an increase in the speed of service. It not only brings more transparency to the applicants but also facilitates the backend processes for the Indian missions in the UAE. The missions call upon all the Indian citizens to make themselves acquainted with the new system and to utilize the GPSP 2.0 portal from the 28th of October 2025.

To sum it up, Indian passports with chip technology from the UAE will not only ensure safer travel but also augment the speed of processing passport services significantly. This technological leap forward is a big win in terms of Indian expats’ convenience and security. The new GPSP 2.0 takes the application and renewal of passports to the next level of being easier, faster, and even more compliant globally.
