Dubai Holding Community Management and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have started building two modern walkways at the popular Palm Jumeirah.
The project is part of an overall agreement signed between RTA and Dubai Holding to improve road infrastructure, ease traffic flow, and improve pedestrian facilities within 15 of Dubai’s best developments.
The new walkways, which measure 40 meters long, will replace existing pedestrian crossings. This will reduce traffic congestion along the island’s main arteries.
Part of Strategic Multi-Zone Infrastructure Agreement Between RTA and Dubai Holding
This milestone in the collaboration agreement between RTA and Dubai Holding will improve the mobility system of the 15 premium tourist areas of Palm Jumeirah through the new footbridges. The master plan includes new acceleration lanes, junction improvements, and intelligent traffic systems.
The heads of public transport said that “it’s important that we coordinate the investment from the private and public sectors to create an advanced urban mobility system.”
Targeted Locations and Phased Construction Timeline
The infrastructure will be expanded across two high-footfall areas:
- Shoreline Bridge (Inbound Corridor):
Located close to the main entrance of Palm Jumeirah and next to the Shoreline residential area. The bridge is due to be completed in June 2027.
- Golden Mile Bridge (Outbound Corridor):
Located along the Golden Mile and next to key retail and commercial fronts. The bridge is due to be delivered in October 2027.
Traffic management and temporary lane changes will be used during construction to ensure traffic flows smoothly around the island.
Major Traffic Decongestion and Community Capacity Boost
RTA’s extensive on-site and traffic surveys showed there would be significant benefits by replacing the level crossings with pedestrian overpasses, including:
- 50% Less Delays—Vehicle delays at key surrounding junctions are set to be reduced by up to 50%.
- Increased Capacity—The two bridges have been designed to provide a pedestrian capacity of 2700 people per hour to cope with increased population and tourism in the future.
- Greater Access for Local Residents and Visitors—Over 16,000 local residents and thousands of visitors every day will enjoy improved access with grade-separated pedestrian crossings throughout Palm Jumeirah.
Alongside this, RTA is also adding new acceleration and deceleration lanes to six key junctions on Palm Jumeirah to provide a better merge of traffic.
Grade-Separated Bridges Drive Toward Dubai’s Zero Road Fatality Goal
This follows the Dubai Traffic Safety Strategy, which requires no pedestrian deaths on our roads. By strategically investing in grade-separated crossings, we have reduced pedestrian fatalities across the emirate by more than 98%.
The new bridges will allow residents and tourists from around the world to cross the busy retail areas of Palm Jumeirah safely away from traffic.

Inclusive Design and Architectural Alignment
Both bridges have been designed with international accessibility and safety standards at their core. Both will include climate-controlled lifts and facilities to provide easy access for elderly people and people of determination.
The design features sleek modern lines to compliment the unique luxury feel of Palm Jumeirah as well as the wider urban environment of the emirate.
By providing a physical separation between pedestrians and high-volume vehicle traffic, the project supports Dubai’s long-term vision of creating safe, pedestrian-friendly, and fully integrated communities.
