Same Iconic Building, Brand-New Future: Dubai Museum Set for 2027 Comeback

The building may look familiar, but every exhibition inside the Museum of the Future will be new, its top official says.

Dubai’s Museum of the Future will welcome visitors again in the first quarter of 2027, but don’t expect the same visit twice. Speaking to Khaleej Times in an interview published on October 26, 2026, Chief Operating Officer Azza Al Nuaimi said new exhibitions, immersive spaces, and laboratories are coming. The Museum of the Future will look the same from the street. Step inside, and it’s a different story.

When Is the Museum of the Future Opening Its Doors Again?

The Museum of the Future is expected to return around its fifth anniversary. It opened to the public on February 22, 2022.

The Museum of the Future had already said it would close temporarily from September 1, 2026. An exact reopening date hasn’t been shared yet. According to the museum’s FAQs, tickets will go on sale closer to the reopening.

What Is New at the Museum of the Future?

No current exhibition is coming back in its old form. The Museum of the Future will replace every one of them with new ones, tied together by a new story and a different visitor journey.

Al Nuaimi said the renewed Museum of the Future will have its “own focus and direction” rather than just refreshing the old galleries.

Visitors to the Museum of the Future will also get a more hands-on role. They can see the work happening inside the laboratories and think about how today’s decisions could shape tomorrow.

What Happens to the Old Exhibits?

So far, the Museum of the Future has taken visitors to an imagined 2071 aboard OSS Hope. Guests have also explored the Heal Institute, Al Waha, Tomorrow Today, and Future Heroes, which are designed for younger visitors.

All of these will come down to make way for the new Museum of the Future experiences, Al Nuaimi confirmed.

What happens to individual pieces is still undecided. The Museum of the Future says it’s too early to say which ones will be kept, moved elsewhere, reused, or let go.

Can the Museum of the Future Keep Up with a Changing World?

AI, biotechnology, and space exploration have moved fast since 2022. Al Nuaimi said the pace has been significant, but she stressed that the Museum of the Future was never meant to predict exactly what’s coming.

The goal is to explore possibilities and get people questioning their assumptions. That’s why the Museum of the Future describes itself as a living museum, a place that keeps growing alongside the future it looks at.

Does that mean everything gets rebuilt every few years? Not necessarily. No exhibition at the Museum of the Future has a fixed lifespan, so some themes may last while the way they’re presented changes.

Who Is Helping Build the Museum of the Future?

People have shown plenty of interest in working there. Within 48 hours, the Future Perfects recruitment drive had more than 20,000 completed applications. For the Visitor Experience roles, the Museum of the Future looks for curiosity, imagination, emotional intelligence, and adaptability. Past museum experience isn’t a priority.

The public has chipped in as well. More than 1,000 ideas were sent in on what the Museum of the Future should explore, and some are already being built into the new experience. Officials haven’t said which ones.

A New Chapter for the Museum of the Future

The first chapter of the Museum of the Future welcomed more than five million visitors, along with 620 events and 224 educational programs.

The next chapter of the Museum of the Future aims to bring people from different backgrounds and fields together to think about humanity’s future. Keep an eye out for the official reopening date and ticket announcement.
