As UAE law strengthens protection against domestic abuse. Authorities urge parents to adopt dialogue and awareness.

Rethinking Discipline

A senior officer of Dubai Police has advised all parents to stop using physical punishment in disciplining children, as it leaves an indelible mark on them psychologically. Brigadier Mohammed Al Matrooshi stated that the path to success does not lead through physical beating as a child, calling such beliefs outdated and harmful.

Psychological Effects of Physical Pushing

Experts say that children who are subjected to physical punishment are likely to develop aggressive behavior, anxiety, and general emotional instability. These children also tend to be disobedient and seek external validation, an inclination setting them up to be more susceptible to dangerous influences. Even the verbal form, if unnoticed, can progress toward physical violence and entail long-lived consequences.

Early Warning Signs and Recognition of Abuse

It is very important to be aware of these early warning signs. The behavior of a child may be manifested through subtle changes such as withdrawal, feelings of sadness, or other behavioral patterns. Again, these serve only as indications that a child may be going through physical punishment or some emotional distress. Authorities state that an earlier intervention can result in severe harm and the protection of a child’s well-being.

Children Need a Different Approach

Child abuse cases are never straightforward since the child himself is never an easy witness or even able to narrate the incidents. Under Wadeema’s Law, schools are mandated to report any suspected cases of child abuse. Likewise, the Dubai Police has equipped itself with innovative tools that comprise child-friendly digital platforms, virtual aids, and even the analysis of children’s drawings for the evidence of trauma associated with physical punishment.

Prevention Begins at Home

According to officials, prevention starts within the family through knowledge. Most issues can be solved before they become serious through open communication, active listening, and emotional support. The creation of a safe society, according to authorities, begins at home through education and early intervention.

Support and Reporting Channels

The Dubai Police have made several channels of confidentiality accessible to the victims of physical punishment and abuse. In this regard, special consideration is given to the physical security of women and children. The psychological and social support of the authorities, in coordination with those concerned, is provided as per need.

Balancing Protection and Family Stability

Severe cases invite strict action, but every effort is made to protect the victim without unnecessarily destroying families. Physical punishment cases are considered based on the severity of violence, and minor cases have been referred for counseling and rehabilitation programs.

Legal Framework and Community Responsibility

UAE Federal Law No. 13 of 2024 on Domestic Violence strengthens protections, including restraining orders against offenders and an obligation to house and care for victims. The authorities state that the issue of physical punishment is not just a legal issue and a family matter but a societal responsibility, and they urge the public to report such issues without fear.

Awareness as the First Line of Defense

Dubai Police reiterate that the elimination of physical punishment is undoubtedly a step toward a safer society. Awareness, education, and the role of the community in the defense of children and women are integral parts of it. As Brigadier Al Matrooshi noted, safeguarding individuals ultimately strengthens society as a whole.
