February 9th, 2026: Abu Dhabi wants to switch to the world of electric mobility faster with introduction of electric vehicles. A new pilot program is introduced by the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in cooperation with talabat. The strategic plan will help increase the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the sphere of last-mile delivery services, decrease carbon emissions, and support the smart mobility ecosystem in the emirate.

The Project Details Of The Electric Vehicles

The pilot is directed at the support and provision of the necessary infrastructure to promote the growth of the utilization of electric vehicles in Abu Dhabi, in the last-mile delivery business. The ITC and the talabat are both collaborating to promote the use of delivery fleets that use electric mobility solutions, as opposed to internal combustion engines. Under the project, special sectors have been created in the high demand regions to accommodate electric cars, which have battery charging and swapping stations. These areas are aimed at satisfying the requirements of drivers, reducing the downtime, as well as enhancing efficiency of the electric delivery processes.

One of the main objectives of the initiative is to substitute the delivery vehicles that run on petrol with electric ones, which will greatly reduce emissions, in order to contribute to the environmental ambitions of Abu Dhabi. The project helps the city to have cleaner air as it reduces the use of fossil fuel in transport which also reduces carbon emissions. In the last-mile delivery services, electric mobility solutions will be tested, which are essential in the efficiency and sustainability of on-demand logistics. The pilot stage will determine the effectiveness of a bigger number of electric delivery vehicles to work effectively and safely in the Abu Dhabi urban setting.

The collaboration indicates the interest of the ITC in establishing intelligent infrastructure for electric vehicles, which will form the basis of extensive implementation of the project to the rest of the emirate, and possible future expansion of the project to other partners.

Leadership Perspectives

According to Eng. Abdulla Hamad Alaryani, the Acting Executive Director of the Planning and Strategic Affairs Sector of the ITC, the project is one of the efforts that the centre has made towards electric vehicles mobility and sustainable transport systems. He highlighted that the creation of superior infrastructure around EVs will contribute to efficiency in operations and safety besides lowering the emissions.

According to May Youssef, Senior Director of Public Affairs, Corporate Communications and Sustainability at talabat, the collaboration is considered one of the steps to expedite the implementation of electric mobility solutions into the delivery ecosystem. She says that, under the initiative, sustainability and safety are put at the center of the talabat strategy, and it is making a great contribution towards cleaner and greener delivery systems.

Reasons Why It Is Important To Abu Dhabi

The pilot project will support the overall vision of smart and sustainable mobility in Abu Dhabi, presenting a successful model of collaboration between the government and the business world to increase the adoption of EVs. The project will support bigger government works in constructing electric vehicle networks and advancing more environment-friendly transport options throughout the emirate.

In case of success, the pilot might be extended to cover additional companies and sectors, which would help in a more broad transition to electric vehicles in the logistics sector, as well as passenger transport and other mobility services across the city of Abu Dhabi.

The partnership between the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) and talabat is a significant step in the sustainable mobility process in Abu Dhabi. The pilot project preconditions the further implementation of EVs and eventual positive environmental outcomes by implementing specific infrastructure and evaluating the viability of using vehicles of the fleet to deliver services based on electricity. As the initiative advances, it may help to become the model of changing the city mobility and aiding the sustainability targets of the emirate far into the future.
