October 23, 2025 | Dubai, UAE: Indian immigrants residing in the country can now add a local UAE address to their passports, a service introduced in 2020. This change depicts greater elasticity for non-resident Indians who do not have a fixed Indian address. By using a local UAE address and an Indian passport, this procedure allows immigrants living in the UAE to register their address without any difficulty.

It is particularly for those people who rent or own houses in the Gulf and no longer have an Indian address. The possibility to add a local UAE address eases passport changes and aligns the document with their residency.

Guide to Add a Local UAE Address

To add a local UAE address to the Indian passport, one needs to apply for a new passport, as pre-existing passports are not eligible for this change. According to the international services authorized by the embassies of both countries, here’s the extensive procedure.

1. Fill out the application for passport re-issue. There are two ways to apply.

  • In person at the passport centre or
  • Online through the Passport Seva portal, then print the form and submit it to the International Services Centre.

2. Visit the International Service Center to give your address, details, and initiate police verification. One must provide residential address, street name, house number, contact number, and email ID. Individuals also need to provide the Indian address of a relative or parent for the Indian police to cross-check.

3. Submit the necessary documents to acquire the UAE residency:

  • Original authorized passport,
  • Registered contract or deed that must be for over a year,
  • A valid ID of the Emirates,
  • Recent utility bill.

Once these documents are approved, the individual will receive both the old passport and the new one.

4. Pay the required amount

  • 415 dirhams for basic services
  • 650 dirhams for premium facilities

By following this procedure, expats can acquire a local UAE address in their Indian passports, enabling them to manage an Indian address that may no longer be their actual residence.

Significance of This Change

The idea of adding a local UAE address in Indian passports provides numerous benefits for individuals who do not have a proper address in India. For multiple individuals, carrying an Indian address was difficult once they settled overseas. With the capability to accept a UAE address, non-resident Indians have a better chance of their identity documentation being recognized by the residents. Additionally,

  • It supports the option of an easy cross-check for immigration and employment opportunities when the address on the passport matches the valid Emirates identification.
  • It decreases the costs of managing Indian addresses, especially for long-term immigrants.
  • It depicts the country’s responsibility towards sustaining the community and its ever-changing dynamic patterns.

When an individual opts to add a local UAE address to their passport, they ensure that the document reflects their current status, reducing the burden.

What Should the Applicants Keep in Mind

When you choose to add a local UAE address to your passport, these are some points to remember:

  • Only new passports will display the change of address; existing passports are not for this facility.
  • Individuals must provide an Indian address during the verification procedure to the authorities.
  • Ensure the UAE documents are authorized and display a perpetual residence of at least one year.
  • The choice to approve the request depends upon the embassy and may take at least half a month or longer.
  • Rely on the authorized channels and international services to avoid fraud.

One can ensure the process of adding a local UAE address to Indian passports runs smoothly.

For immigrants living in the country, adding a local UAE address to their passport is a transformative leap that helps them to match their identity with their current residence. A local UAE address in their Indian passports reduces the management of documents and eases the life of the expats living in the Gulf.

By carefully following the steps for the online application or offline visit with the submission of relevant documents and payment, the process becomes easier. The service was initiated a few years back, but the lack of awareness is the main issue. For individuals who are looking to add a local UAE address, they should act thoroughly. Using authorized websites with proper vigilance, the procedure offers a calculative and long-term solution to match the passport details.
