You may have seen a certificate in your social media feeds this week, with the name of an individual, the UAE colors and national imagery. The certificate is a digital, UAE national pledge that went live this week.
However, it is not obligatory for the Government. It is a voluntary process.
The pledge has had a good start since its beginning. Here are the answers to all your questions about the pledge.
What Is Ahd wa Waad?
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, launched the project Ahd wa Waad (Pledge and Commitment) in the Abu Dhabi Energy Centre on 19th May 2026.
More than 4,800 intellectuals, scholars, investors, businessmen, students and residents/community representatives were in attendance at the event. Thirty distinguished figures had signed the pledge document and the participation was extended to the wider community, with Sheikh Nahyan being the first to sign.
Sandooq Al Watan, a non-profit organisation under Erth Zayed Philanthropies, which aims to reinforce Emirati national identity and values, organises the initiative. The digital platform launched on June 3, 2026, with the launch event, moving beyond just the event itself.

What is the UAE National Pledge About?
The UAE national pledge is a virtual pledge to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
This pledge starts with the words “Hand in hand, we, the citizens and residents of this blessed land: Pledge our loyalty and allegiance to our wise leader, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan,”
It says Sheikh Mohamed is the symbol of pride and dignity for the nation, a leader who gives loyalty, security and safety to his people, and a leader who makes good decisions with determination and courage.
The project aims to bring together and unite the community – consisting of various nationalities speaking different languages – to speak with one voice of gratitude, commitment and loyalty to the UAE President, Sandooq Al Watan reported.
The foundation of Ahd wa Waad is on four pillars: coexistence and unity, inspiration from the values of leadership of the President, civic duty and national identity, and thanking the UAE for stability and prosperity.
How to Sign Ahd wa Waad?
It only takes a matter of minutes. Go to pledge.ae, read through the pledge text and sign it digitally. Upon completion, you will get a customized Certificate of Appreciation with your name that you can download and post on social media.
Moreover, the website is multilingual and up to 10 family members can pledge together, thus enabling people of different nationalities and different languages to join the pledge.
Why The UAE National Pledge Calls Residents?
The UAE national pledge is an open platform for all the UAE residents to voice their appreciation for the country’s accomplishments in safety, security and prosperity.
Ahd wa Waad is a statement of the UAE’s national values of peace, coexistence and loyalty, and a call to action to build national partnership and shared responsibility amongst all members of society.
The Pledge and Commitment initiative has a unique flavor in a country that comprises expatriates from dozens of nationalities.
It is not just for citizens.
It’s written for all those who have called the UAE home, work, or community. The certificate could be an electronic file. It is a small act of belonging, however, for the hundreds of thousands of residents who have already signed.
