A landmark approval – The Emirates Drug Establishment, which is in charge of approving medicines in the United Arab Emirates has, announced on Monday i.e 19th August, 2026 and given the light to a new pill called RINVOQ, the brand name for a drug called Upadacitinib, as an oral treatment for non-segmental vitiligo. This pill can be taken by people with vitiligo who are twelve years old and above. It is a deal because this treatment works through the bloodstream and addresses the condition from within rather than simply targeting the skin’s surface and can simply be taken by mouth to treat this condition.
This decision will have an impact on people all around the world. The United States and Europe are still reviewing this pill. The United Arab Emirates has already approved it. This means that people in the United Arab Emirates can get this pill before anyone.
So how does this pill work?
It is actually pretty simple. RINVOQ is taken as a single pill once a day. First pill ever to treat vitiligo from the inside out.
To understand why this pill is so important you need to know what happens when someone has vitiligo. The condition starts when the cells that produce colour in the skin are destroyed. When these cells disappear once they do not come back. Now, the skin in that region turns pale or white.
