UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has announced January 7 as ‘Zayed the Founder Day.’
The presidential decree is to celebrate the life, legacy, and contributions of the late Founding Father of the Nation, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The announcement by the UAE President will see Sheikh Zayed’s legacy and wisdom translated into initiatives to support the community and preserve our culture and values in institutions.
Strategic Timing for the New Academic and Work Year
The date has been chosen, as it marks the beginning of the new year, and schools, businesses, and government institutions will be starting up again. It is organized by the Founder’s Office and allows citizens and residents to remember the importance of unity, kindness, and giving back to the community once a year.
By having the event at the start of January, national leaders can set a foundation for social and economic initiatives throughout the year.
Symbolic 7/1 Date Represents Seven Emirates as One Nation
The 7th of January has major significance for the nation. Represented by 7/1, it reflects the union of seven emirates and the creation of one federation.
It also relates back to the historical year of 1971 when Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan created the union.
Multi-Sector Initiatives Led by The Founder’s Office
The Founder’s Office will oversee and drive various initiatives across the country, including education, research, and youth and community activities.
Projects across various educational and community institutions in all seven emirates will focus on promoting the values of Sheikh Zayed through his dedication to human development, sustainability, and peace. January 7th will also be used as a springboard for ongoing humanitarian and community outreach throughout the year.
