September 3, 2025 | Abu Dhabi, UAE: UFC women in Abu Dhabi will mark a historical moment next month as the city is set to achieve a significant milestone by hosting its inaugural women’s title fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). This landmark event is scheduled to take place as part of UFC 321: Aspinall vs Gane on October 25 at the Etihad Arena.

The historical significance of the occasion is particularly evident in the co-main event, which will showcase fighters Virna Jandiroba and Mackenzie Dern competing for the vacant strawweight championship. This matchup represents the first women’s championship contest to occur in Abu Dhabi, further solidifying the increasing prominence of UFC women in Abu Dhabi. 

Jandiroba vs Dern: A Rematch With Historic Stakes for UFC Women in Abu Dhabi 

The upcoming meeting on Yas Island marks the second encounter between Jandiroba and Dern. Their initial match took place at UFC 267, in which Dern secured a unanimous decision victory, extending her winning streak. This performance played a significant role in establishing her reputation as one of the division’s most formidable grapplers and a consistent contender within the top five.

Since that time, both fighters have developed impressive professional records. Dern has rebounded from setbacks with victories over opponents, including Amanda Ribas (via first-round TKO in 2020) and others, showcasing her exceptional ground control and submission skills that make her dangerous in five-round contests.

Jandiroba has recently experienced the most successful phase of her professional career. She has achieved victories in six of her last seven competitions, including five consecutive wins against high-caliber opponents. Her triumphs over Angela Hill, Marina Rodriguez, Amanda Lemos, Yan Xiaonan, and Loopy Godinez illustrate her developing proficiency. While she initially gained recognition for her jiu-jitsu skills, she has since expanded to more precise striking techniques, making her a better fighter. 

The current vacancy of the women’s strawweight title adds significant importance to the impending rematch.
