Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, July 20, 2025: The kingdom of Saudi Arabia is mourning the loss of Prince Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulziz Al Saud, known as “Saudi Arabia Sleeping Prince” to millions. He died in Riyadh on Saturday, July 19, 2025, a remarkable journey ended, which touched the hearts worldwide.

The Story of Saudi Arabia Sleeping Prince

On 15 years age, Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal’s life would dramatically change. In 2005, having gone to a London military college for his studies, he was in a grave car accident. The tragedy had a severe impact on his brain and led to a deep coma. Now recognized for nearly two decades as the Sleeping Prince of Saudi Arabia, Prince Alwaleed has been chased, prayed for, and expected to wake up by people in the Middle East and beyond.

Even with highly expert medical assistance and consultation from specialists all over the world, Prince did not awaken from his coma. His father, Prince Khalid bin Talal, would never give up hope, and in fact, remained fully dedicated to his son’s care. Almost every day, Prince Khalid would go to meet his son, pray for him, and update the public via social media. Prince Hospital witnessed many a moment in yellow faith where family members and friends would gather to offer prayers on important Islamic occasions such as Ramadan and Eid.

During the years, Prince’s family remained dedicated. He invited medical professionals from various countries, expecting some improvement, but the prince remained in the same position. Sometimes, small movements gave hope to the family, but Saudi Arabia Sleeping Prince remained in a coma for almost 20 years. The story of his coma made him a symbol of faith and patience in Saudi Arabia.

Final Goodbye and Funeral Details

The Royal Court confirmed the passage of Saudi Arabia Sleeping Prince on July 19, 2025. A funeral for Prince Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal is being held on July 20, 2025, in the capital, Riyadh. For men, there will be prayers after the ASR prayer at the Imam Turkish bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. For women, prayer service is prescribed after the prayer at Raja Faisal Specialist Hospital.

More than three days of condolences will be received from Sunday, 20 July to Tuesday, 22 July. After the male prayer, Prince will gather in the palace of Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal in Al-Fakheria district. Women will gather at the Al-Fakhiyari Palace, which is at the residence of Prince Talal bin Abdulziz, after Maghrib Prayer.

The father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, shared his deep sadness and faith on social media:

“With hearts full of faith in Allah’s decree and destiny, and with profound sadness and sorrow, we mourn our beloved son Prince Alwaleed. May Allah have mercy on him, who passed away to Allah’s mercy today.”
