July 22, 2025 | Dubai, UAE: Dubai leads the way in artificial intelligence openness through the introduction of the New AI icon in Dubai ,an international-grade system created by the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) under directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

The new AI icon of Dubai is a subset of a comprehensive Human-Machine Collaboration (HMC) framework intended to demonstrate clearly where and in what manner digital technologies such as algorithms, robots, generative AI, and automation software are utilized in human decision-making and content generation.

This system defines five categories that reflect various levels of human-machine interaction, and nine concise, unambiguous icons that indicate the specific point in a process during which machine input was provided.

From court to classroom, investment bank to advertising agency, Dubai is looking forward to a wide-scale implementation of the New AI icon in Dubai in public and private sectors. The icons will be on their way to becoming a global visual solution to further transparency, improve trust, and honor the harmony between human imagination and machine minds.

Transparency Without Enforcement: A New Path for Global AI Ethics

Dr. Heba Chehade, Foresight Research Lead at the DFF, said the New AI icon in Dubai should not be seen as a tool for enforcement of regulation but a global benchmark for voluntary disclosure of transparency. “In contrast to generative watermarking or AI detection technology that is targeted at outputs, this mechanism sheds light on the process. It enables people and institutions to reveal how machines have added value, promoting integrity from the very beginning,” she said.

Dr. Heba points out that the icons motivate designers to act ethically without the threat of punishment. “Even researchers rely on their own judgment when using AI. The New AI icon in Dubai provides a choice to reveal the relationship publicly to humans. It’s honesty, not compliance.”

The Dubai Crown Prince has also already directed Dubai to implement the New AI icon in Dubai in all government knowledge-based and research endeavors. In writing policy reports, publishing educational research, or creating blueprints for future strategies, government organizations are now asked to clearly feature such icons.

“This standard will help ensure ethical use of AI in whatever industry it touches the public,” Dr. Heba said. “Implementing the standard, when people see a government proposal or parents see an education report, they’ll instantly know what sections were AI-supported and where human judgment won.”

Adoption Across Industries: New AI Icon in Dubai Gains Momentum Across Sectors

The New AI icon proposed by the DFF has already evoked interest in a number of industries. Law firms will use the system to mark when court suggestions or legal documents are produced using machine tools, but completed using human judgment. Teachers in schools and universities will be able to use the icons to mark when student work or institutional research has AI input.

“Media professionals, creatives, and advertising creatives are also investigating how to leverage the New AI symbol in Dubai to unveil the harmony of human imagination and machine enhancement,” said Dr. Heba. “It is open and promotes collaboration.”

Management consultants and investment advisors are also considered to be the direct beneficiaries of the system. “By utilizing the New AI icon in Dubai, companies can establish confidence with clients by open disclosure when machine intelligence is incorporated into analysis or planning strategies,” she further added.

The icons are open-source and available for voluntary use worldwide. “This is Dubai’s gift to the global community,” said Dr. Heba. “Many have asked for a standard like this, and now it’s simple, practical, and scalable.”

From the beginning, the creation of the New AI icon in Dubai was led by collaboration. “We started with a question: how do we empower creators to self-define AI use in a beneficial way?” explained Dr. Heba. “It involved researchers, designers, and law experts to develop what is now a world-first framework in transparent AI ethics.”
