GITEX Dubai begins today at the Dubai World Trade Centre with the world’s largest technology exhibition. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has made the world go abuzz after it rolled out its historic AI-driven trackless tram in Dubai, along with eleven other intelligent mobility innovations.
Dubai’s Trackless Tram in Dubai Revolutionises Urban Transport
The trackless tram of Dubai is a milestone in green urban mobility. The state-of-the-art system does not have fixed tracks, but relies on optical navigation, GPS, and LiDAR technologies to travel along virtual paths with great accuracy. The system uses artificial intelligence to recognize road obstacles as well as automatically turn the system.

Dubai Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, had originally viewed this new form of transport on November 3, 2024.Dubai trackless tram will now be inaugurated throughout eight strategic locations across the emirate.
Key Features of the Trackless Tram in Dubai:
- Three-carriage configuration accommodating up to 300 passengers
- Top speeds reaching 70 km/h with operational speeds between 25-60 km/h
- Single battery charge covering up to 100 kilometers
- Fully electric system offering sustainable transport solution
- Lower costs and faster construction compared to traditional rail systems
GITEX Dubai 2025 Hosts Global Technology Showcase
GITEX Dubai 2025 is to be held between 13th to 17th October with over 6,800 businesses across 180 nations. The Dubai World Trade Centre will be the venue of the mega exhibition of artificial intelligence, robotics, and Internet of Things solutions, with over 200,000 visitors.
Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director-General, and Chairman of the RTA Board of Executive Directors, highlighted the significance of this year. “These projects mark the fulfillment of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to turn Dubai as the smartest as well as the happiest city in the world,” he added.
RTA uses Artificial Intelligence and big data analytics to deliver predictive, proactive, and connected transportation services enhancing the quality of life among both residents and visitors.
Eleven Smart Mobility Projects Transform Dubai’s Future
RTA showcases eleven disruptive projects during GITEX Dubai, demonstrating end-to-end digital transformation across transport industries. The projects demonstrate RTA’s leadership in employing artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, and predictive technologies.
Major Projects Featured at GITEX Dubai

- Aerial Taxi Service: First-ever urban aerial mobility utilizing Joby S4 aircraft with reduced travel time between Dubai International Airport and Palm Jumeirah to 10 minutes
- Rail Inspection System of Safe Tracks (ARIIS): Laser-scanning technology identifying rail defects with 70% reduced inspection time
- Intelligent Mobility Platform to Ensure Safe Cities: Internet of Things-enabled tracking of commercial transportation movement such as school buses and delivery vans.
- This virtual tracking procedure enables wider routing complexity whilst considerably decreasing construction cost as well as construction time.
How the Trackless Tram in Dubai Operates
The trackless tram in Dubai uses innovative virtual tracking technology instead of traditional rails. It follows painted lines on dedicated lanes using camera-based guidance systems. This remote tracking process facilitates greater routing flexibility with significantly lowered construction cost and duration.
The vehicle is self-contained and identifies road hazards in real time to automatically change course to ensure the safety of the occupiers. The Dubai trackless tram seamlessly interfuses with Dubai’s existing smart transport system.

Technical Specifications:
- Optical navigation with LiDAR and GPS guidance systems
- Camera-based tracking following painted lane markers
- Autonomous obstacle detection and path adjustment capabilities
- Real-time integration with traffic management systems
- Lower capital and operational costs than conventional tram systems
GITEX Dubai Unveils Global Innovation in Smart Mobility
Dubai’s GITEX Dubai participation aligns with Dubai’s Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2030 that targets putting Dubai on the global map as a model for AI-based transport. Dubai’s trackless tram makes these broader smart city and green transport goals possible.
Moreover, The AI Factory brings data scientists and engineers together to create autonomous learning systems for best-in-class operations and driving Dubai’s digital transformation. Interactive Smart Kiosks enhance customer experience through real-time video support, NOL card management, and real-time trip information.
