Dubai, October 27, 2025 – New UAE road rules are changing the way residents drive every day. As more people move to the UAE, extra cars and bikes are filling the roads. Local authorities update traffic laws often so that everyone has a safer journey. In October 2025, five new UAE road rules were launched to reduce congestion and make travel easier.

Big Changes in UAE Road Safety

The latest new UAE road rules started in various emirates over the past two months. Authorities want fewer accidents. They also want traffic to move more smoothly. These five new UAE road rules target rush-hour jams, delivery bikes, vehicle lanes, and speed controls. Drivers must learn the new UAE road rules before their next trip.

Rule 1: New Darb Toll Timings – Abu Dhabi

  • The Darb toll system in Abu Dhabi changed its evening schedule from September 1, 2025.
  • The toll now applies from 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Saturday.
  • Earlier, the toll ran only from 5pm to 7pm.
  • Daily and monthly caps for toll payments were removed. All drivers must pay for each trip.
  • These new UAE road rules help clear traffic during the busy hours.

Rule 2: Variable Speed Limit on Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Road – Abu Dhabi

  • Starting October 27, 2025, electronic signs show changing speed limits.
  • The control system links to live sensors and cameras.
  • Speed limits go up or down based on accidents, weather, or roadworks.
  • These new UAE road rules keep drivers safe during bad conditions or events.
  • Speed signs change quickly before the driver passes by, avoiding confusion.

Rule 3: Delivery Riders Restriction on Fast Lanes – Dubai

  • Starting from November 1, 2025, delivery riders will not be allowed to ride in the leftmost and next-to-left lanes on five-lane roads.
  • On 3 and 4-lane roads delivery riders must keep away from the leftmost lane.
  • They will be allowed to use the one- and two-lane roads without any restrictions.
  • These new UAE road regulations are a step forward in the right direction to ensure proper sharing of roads among delivery riders and motorists.
  • The move stems from the previous accidents involving bicycles in Dubai’s most congested streets.

Rule 4: Sharjah Vehicle Lane Allocation

  • Starting from November 1, 2025, a street traffic management system has been already introduced in Sharjah that will separate lanes for motorcycles, delivery bikes, buses, and trucks.
  • Heavy vehicles and passenger buses can only use the rightmost lane.
  • The fast left lane is off-limits for motorcycles.
  • In the case of four-lane roads, bikers can only use the two lanes on the right side.
  • On three-lane roads they can use either the middle or the right one and on two-lane roads only the right one.
  • The penalties for breaking the new UAE road regulations are Dh 1,500 for heavy vehicles, Dh 500 for others, and also acquiring 12 traffic points.

Rule 5: Ajman Smart Speed Limiters for Taxis

  • Ajman equipped taxis and limousines with smart speed limiters.
  • The device tracks the vehicle and area speed limit in real time.
  • It matches the car’s speed with the permitted local speed automatically.
  • Speed limiters slow down risky drivers.
  • These new UAE road rules protect passengers, drivers, and all road users.

Why New UAE Road Rules Matter?

All the people living and driving in the UAE should be acquainted with those new UAE road rules for their daily routes. The smart speed limiters, restricted lanes, and updated tolls will all contribute to safer travels across the country for everyone. Each emirate gave its web updates and guidance, so check local sites for full details. Learning the new UAE road rules helps everyone enjoy faster, safer trips.

Practical tips for drivers

  • Check toll timings before using Abu Dhabi roads.
  • Watch out for changing speed signs and adjust your driving speed.
  • Delivery riders should use only approved lanes to avoid fines in Dubai and Sharjah.
  • Taxi drivers in Ajman should confirm their speed limiter devices are working.
  • Always read traffic signs carefully and follow instructions.

The drivers must adhere to the new UAE road rules not only to be safe but also to avoid the fines. If the rules come into effect, the number of accidents may decline, the streets will be less congested.
