December 13, 2025 | Dubai, UAE: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UAE (MoFA) has declared UAE travel ban to Mali and urged all Emirati nationals against traveling to West Africa and urged those who are already visiting to halt at once.

UAE Travel Ban To Mali Asks the Citizens To Go Back

MoFA announced in an official statement on 9 December 2025 that the decision of UAE travel ban to Mali had been made, in accordance with the current developments in the Republic of Mali. The message is clear in that the nationals who are already in Mali should make plans to go back to the UAE as early as possible. The authorities have also provided a 24-hour emergency hotline ( +971 800 24 ) to be used by the UAE citizens in other countries as they encounter a crisis or require support.

The UAE Travel Ban To Mali Is To Increase Security Reservations

Even though the official announcement of UAE travel ban to Mali by the MoFA does not outline the specifics of the threat, analysts and diplomats in the region refer to the fact that the state of internal security in Mali has significantly worsened as one of the motivators. The armed insurgent groups are also reported to increase clashes with the government forces, thus producing volatile conditions in the majority of the country.

In certain Mali regions, armed groups have been reported to cut off major transportation routes and cause fuel shortages, among other factors, which have led to a high incidence of instability and uncertainty among civilians.

The action of the UAE travel ban to Mali has taken the lines of other foreign governments in the recent past, which have been issuing warnings and advisories about the severity of the security crisis in Mali.

UAE Travel Ban To Mali Asks the Citizens To Go Back

The Specifications of UAE Travel Ban To Mali

Under the new directive:

  • Any UAE nationals travelling to Mali is prohibited. It is highly discouraged to book flights or enter Mali in the future.
  • Emiratis who are already in Mali must get out as quickly as they can. They are encouraged to go back to the UAE with the help of the available commercial aviation or evacuation plans.
  • 24/7 support is available. The government of UAE has also offered an emergency hotline where any citizen with troubles, or in need of advice would call it in those countries.

It is important to mention that the UAE travel ban to Mali is limited to only UAE nationals. Foreign citizens and expatriate residents of the UAE are not targeted directly by this directive, but the companies and organisations that send their staff to Mali are encouraged to exercise the same caution and check up on the safety protocols.

Consequences Of The UAE Citizens And Organisations

The impacts of the abrupt travel ban are bound to be far-reaching:

  • Emiratis travelling or on business in Mali: Diplomats, businesspeople, humanitarian workers, or tourists – they have to leave or cancel their travel. Emergency evacuation is highly encouraged.
  • In the case of UAE based companies operating in Mali: Mining projects, energy projects, development or humanitarian projects can be suspended or delayed. Employers might have to consult evacuation plans and security measures, particularly with mixed-nationality teams.
  • To families and residents in the UAE who have connections with Mali: The travel plans, business contacts and commitments that are currently in Mali may be impacted by the ban.

This UAE travel ban to Mali is against a wider crisis in Mali, such as violent insurgency, siege-like situation in conflict zones and most recently a fuel-blockade by militant groups in opposition to government policies. The resultant developments have caused hiccups in the normal services, caused mass dislocation, and resulted in evacuation advisories issued by various foreign governments to their citizens.

UAE Travel Ban To Mali Asks the Citizens To Go Back

The relocation of the UAE highlights the fact that the security situation in Mali has worsened not only in relation to the citizens of the country, but also to the foreign nationals, considering the increasing threats of violence and the lack of stability.

Travelling To Mali Or What To Do In Case You Are In Mali

  • In case you are a UAE citizen and you are already in Mali: Immediately contact the UAE embassy or the authorities. Call the 24/7 emergency hotline and make departure as early as possible.
  • In case you had arrangements to go to Mali: cancel or delay them till further notice. The travel ban is still in place until officially.
  • In case you are connected with an organisation that sends people to Mali: Cancel unnecessary trips, re-evaluate plans of deployment, and review risks.

The citizens and organisations should note the UAE travel ban to Mali, listen to the caution of the UAE authorities and take responsibility in the given fluid situation in Mali.
