One question runs through millions of travel searches every month. Can I get into the UAE without a visa? The answer depends entirely on your passport. As of 2026, the UAE visa free countries list confirmed that citizens of at least 70 countries can enter without a pre-arranged visa. That is a generous number. However, it still leaves a large portion of the world’s population on the outside of that list, including some of the UAE’s largest resident communities.
The Three Tiers You Need to Know
The UAE visa free countries scheme does not apply to everyone. It is divided into three levels.
GCC states take the top spots. Citizens of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar citizens are exempt from visas. They can cross UAE borders with a national identity card.
The most lenient offer is made to 49 countries where you have the possibility to enter the country with multiple visas for 90 days stay within a 180-day period. This arrangement, however, does not allow for employment. This group includes the bulk of Europe, the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, China, Russia. Also, several Latin American and Caribbean countries.
Another category allows a 30-day visa-free stay on arrival, with the possibility to extend in many cases. Then there is the conditional visa-on-arrival tier, with the nationals of six countries including Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Kenya, and South Africa can get a 14 or 60-day visa on arrival, but only if they hold valid residency from an approved country like the US, UK, or EU.
Names Missing From the UAE Visa Free Countries List
The most notable absences tell their own story. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Egypt, and the Philippines, without qualifying residency, all require a pre-arranged UAE visa.
Together, these nationalities represent the majority of the UAE’s 10 million-strong expatriate population. They live here, work here, build here, and also send billions in remittances abroad every year. However, UAE authorities require their nationals to apply for a visa before they arrive.
Seychelles is the only African state to be visa exempt for the UAE for 90 days. That’s a slim margin for a continent of 54 countries and 1.4 billion people.
Who Could Be Next in the UAE Visa Free Countries List?
This is where speculation gets interesting, and where the data supports a reasonable argument.
Since 2022, the UAE has been on a CEPA signing spree, signing comprehensive trade agreements with India, Türkiye, Indonesia, Kenya, Cambodia, Israel, Georgia, and Ukraine, among others. Governments often sign trade agreements before or at the same time as visa liberalisation. Authorities have granted visa-on-arrival access to Indonesia and Kenya. That is a mindful path.
Pakistan is also the UAE’s second largest source of expatriate workers and the two countries trade in billions of dollars every year. A structured visa facilitation arrangement for Pakistani nationals is a recurring diplomatic conversation rather than a distant aspiration.
The situation is more complicated in India. In 2022, the two countries signed a CEPA. Indian nationals holding third country citizenship benefit from visa-on-arrival facility already. There has been policy talk about more liberalisation of the regime for first-time visitors from India for short-term business or tourist visits, but nothing official has been announced yet.
Why the List Matters Beyond Travel
The UAE’s own issued passport now entitles Emirati citizens to visa-free or visa-on-arrival entry to 184 to 187 countries. This puts the UAE at the top five strongest passport rankings on the Henley Passport Index 2026.
Not geographical. This was achieved over many years of bilateral agreements, diplomatic investment and a conscious soft power policy. The UAE visa free list that lets others in reflects the same logic in reverse. Every country added to the list is a diplomatic relationship being formalised, a trade corridor being signalled, or a tourism market being opened.
The UAE adds to the list when it wants to. The question of who is next is less about eligibility and more about which bilateral relationships the UAE is actively pursuing.
