IIFA 2027 Abu Dhabi marks a UAE return, with a promise that the edition will outshine all before it.
There are events that entertain. And then there are events that genuinely feel like a moment in time, the kind you wish you had been at, the kind people talk about long after the curtain falls.
IIFA has always been the latter. And now, it is coming back to Abu Dhabi. The International Indian Film Academy has officially confirmed that IIFA 2027 will return to the UAE capital, bringing with it the full spectacle of Indian cinema, live music, red carpet glamour and the kind of star-studded energy that only IIFA seems to generate at scale. Dates are yet to be announced, but the destination is confirmed and for anyone who knows what Abu Dhabi looked like the last time IIFA came to town, that alone is enough to start counting down.
A City That Already Knows How to Host a Legend
Abu Dhabi and IIFA have history. The 2024 edition — the third time Yas Island had welcomed the awards was not simply an awards night. It was a three-day festival held at the iconic Etihad Arena from September 27th to 29th, and it delivered the kind of moments that find their way permanently into Bollywood folklore.
Shah Rukh Khan won Best Actor for Jawan, accepting his award in front of an audience that had watched him host, perform and own the evening in equal measure. Animal swept the biggest prize of the night, taking home Best Film. Rani Mukerji claimed Best Actress for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway and then reunited with Shah Rukh Khan on stage in a moment that sent nostalgia through every person watching.
SRK and Vicky Kaushal performed together on Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam, ending with SRK’s signature pose in a sequence that became one of the most replayed clips of the entire weekend. Rekha returned to the IIFA stage. Janhvi Kapoor made her IIFA performance debut. Vidhu Vinod Chopra took Best Director for 12th Fail. The evening moved between spectacle and sincerity with the kind of ease that only the biggest nights in Indian entertainment ever manage.
The South Indian film industries had their own dedicated celebration on day one, a genuine acknowledgement of how far beyond Bollywood Indian cinema’s reach now extends.
What Comes Next?
Official details for IIFA 2027 Abu Dhabi are still to be revealed. But the destination is set, and if the 2024 edition taught us anything, the event does not arrive quietly. The UAE has a way of making already extraordinary things feel even bigger. IIFA 2027 is going to be no different.
Abu Dhabi, the countdown has begun.
