Dubai Confirms 4 Day Work Week to improve the work-life balance and increase the productivity of employees. The Human Resource Department of the Government of Dubai has expanded the ‘Flexible Working Hours Summer’ Initiative for the year 2025, which is based on the successful trial scheme of last year. This new system will start from July 1, Tuesday, and will be applicable till September 12, Friday. This change is bringing a refreshed experience for government employees, which will give them a more balanced and Flexible Working Hours environment.

A Closer Look at the ‘Our Flexible Working Hours Summer’ Initiative

Dubai has announced flexible work time under the program after the success of last year’s pilot project, which saw a strong improvement in productivity, happiness, and employee satisfaction.

The main points of this initiative are as follows:

  • This scheme will apply to 21 government institutions in Dubai, which has increased from 15 institutions in the previous year.

Two work models will be introduced for Flexible Working Hours:

  • Model 1: 8 hours of work day from Monday to Thursday, and a holiday on Friday.
  •  Model 2: 7 hours of work day from Monday to Thursday, and 4.5 hours of work on Friday.

The initiative is part of the UAE’s ‘Year of Community’, which aims to promote spending time with family during school holidays and create a healthy work environment.

Positive Impact of the 2024 Pilot

Dubai’s 2024 Flexible Working Hours Trial has shown many important benefits:

  • Work productivity improved
  • The atmosphere and culture of the workplace also improved

Now, in 2025, this scheme has been extended to even more people, so that even better results can be achieved.

Impact on Private Sector Workers

Currently, the new Working Hour policy applies only to government employees. But Dubai and UAE governments have also demanded to increase flexible time and remote work options for private sector employees. A government survey in November 2024 also reported that flexible hours and remote work can reduce traffic congestion during Dubai’s busy times.

Benefits of Flexible Working Hours in Dubai

  • Better work-life balance.
  • Decreased stress and fatigue.
  • Increase in satisfaction with work.
  • Connection with family and community improved.

Dubai has announced four-day working hours to set an example for other sectors in the country.
