June 18, 2025 | Dubai, UAE – In an act of goodwill to the stranded citizens of Iran, a UAE visa fine waiver for Iranians was announced on June 17, 2025. According to the provided help, Iranian citizens will be exempted from overstay fines in the UAE, whether they enter on a residential, tourist, or any other type of visa. Taken under the directives of President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE visa fine waiver for Iranians was issued by the country’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) on Tuesday.

Decision Taken Due to Challenging Conditions

The UAE authorities exemplify that the UAE visa fine waiver for Iranians was announced in response to the exceptional circumstances that the region is witnessing and to provide relief to this group of people who were unable to return to their homeland, due to the closure of airspace and the suspension of flights.

The air travel suspension is extended to all carriers like Flydubai, Etihad, Emirates, and Air Arabia. The announcement of flight suspensions and changes in air routes across Iran, Israel, and Iraq comes from the war-ridden regions that would disrupt air travel.

Passengers taking off from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah in the UAE have been urged to check and confirm their flight status. Hence, to relieve the burden of stranded citizens of Iran, the UAE visa fine waiver for Iranians was offered.

Extent and Process of The Waiver

Once availed, the UAE visa fine waiver for Iranians extension is valid until December 31, 2025. The authority encourages the affected to avail the extension by either registering on the UAE’s smart services digital platform or by visiting the ICP customer happiness centers located across the country. Arising War Conditions Between Israel and Iran

The current war escalation between Iran and Israel stems from past tensions between the two countries. Where early conflicts were through covert attacks or digital, recent developments have become highly threatening. On Wednesday, the war entered its sixth day when both sides were engaging in increasingly wider attacks. Seeing the life-risking situation, the UAE visa fine waiver for Iranians became an important humanitarian step.

As of late, Tehran has reported firing hypersonic Fattah-1 missiles at Israel within a span of a few hours after American President Donald Trump demanded the Islamic Republic’s “unconditional surrender”. Amid the dense tension in the Middle East, it becomes difficult for Iranian citizens to return to their homes due to the progression of geopolitical instabilities. Hence, the provision of a UAE visa fine waiver for Iranians has become an invaluable support to the people, while also making itself another big step in the UAE’s plan to strengthen its social and humanitarian well-being among its citizens through national efforts.

UAE’s Previous Fine Waiver On Visa For Sudan

However, this is not the first time the UAE has granted altruistic measures in response to rising conflicts. Similar to the UAE visa fine waiver for Iranians, the UAE also exempted citizens of Sudan from fines for overstaying on expired residency or entry permits from May 19, 2025.

This decision was taken keeping in mind the challenging times and humanitarian support needed for Sudanese residents, making another milestone in the UAE’s display of its commitment to humanitarian values and universal tolerance. Sudanese nationals residing in the UAE can avail of the exemption through submission of renewal applications and regularize their status through the digital service platform of ICP.

The exemption announcement for fine waiver has been received positively by Iranian expats and by the local citizens as well. Various social media remarks of gratitude and appreciation for the UAE’s help have been made in various places.
