July 24, 2025 | Dubai, UAE: The Roads and Transport Authority or RTA has rebranded efforts aimed at promoting the Dubai Metro 30-minute rule, an initiative rewarding passengers for efficient travel and fewer fare expenditures by UAE nationals and foreigners.

Riders who switch between the Dubai Metro, tram, or public bus within 30 minutes of checking out from one form will be charged only a single fare under the Dubai Metro 30-minute rule. One nol card lets the rider make no more than three transfers and finish the journey within the 180-minute window, hence allowing faster, more reasonably priced movement across Dubai’s seven transit zones.

With the goal of improving public mobility and encouraging usage of Dubai’s integrated transit network, the Dubai Metro 30-minute policy, which shows the RTA’s dedication to innovation, accessibility, and sustainability in urban transit.

Understanding the Fare Benefit of Dubai Metro 30-minute Rule

The Dubai Metro 30-minute rule applies across all nol card types, including red, silver, gold and personal cards. However, the fare structure varies depending on the number of zones travelled and the card used.

Red nol tickets, which apply to tourists in the majority of cases, cost AED 4 for a single zone, AED 6 for two zones adjacent to one another and AED 8.5 for crossing more than two zones. Red card but gold class card passengers pay between AED 8 and AED 17. Silver card passengers pay less – AED 3 for a single zone, AED 5 for two zones, and AED 7.5 for more than two zones.

The gold card holders are allowed to avail the luxury cabins of the metro at AED 6, AED 10 and AED 15, respectively. The individual card holders, senior citizens, eligible students and People of Determination – are entitled to a discount or travel for free based on RTA regulations.

In each scenario, Dubai Metro 30-minute rule makes sure that if the commuting commuters change mode of transport within the time limit, their entire trip is considered as one single ride, reducing overall costs of transportation.

“Dubai’s public transport system was designed with efficiency and inclusivity at its core,” said an RTA spokesperson. “With the Dubai Metro 30-minute rule, we’re offering passengers a way to travel farther across the city, using multiple modes, without facing multiple charges.”

Encouraging Smarter Travel Across the Network

Dubai transit is segregated into seven color-coded areas, and the nol card system automates calculation of the most efficient fare depending on distance and transfers. Passengers do not experience any problems interchanging from the metro, tram and bus networks within the Dubai Metro 30-minute rule time window, thereby making it a convenient mode for regular commuters.

The RTA encourages people to use the S’hail app or RTA’s web-based trip planner, which both estimate fares and show zone changes. They are particularly useful for assisting people with adhering to the 30-minute rule of Dubai Metro and avoiding unexpected fees.

Metro 3

Commuters who spend more than 180 minutes per trip or make more than three transfers will activate a fresh fare charge, as per RTA guidelines. Children of below five years of age continue to ride free of cost, irrespective of mode or zones covered.

Dubai Metro 30-minute rule is an important project to decongest traffic, cut cost, and enable public transportation simply as the city becomes progressively reliant on green and inexpensive modes of transportation.

Added the representative, “Everyone who lives and travels to Dubai is urged to completely use the Dubai Metro 30-minute regulation. “This move facilitates smarter travel, added convenience and an interconnected Dubai.”
