July 22, 2025 | Dubai, UAE: The latest Dubai RTA announcement has given an alert on several road closures and traffic diversions across the city. It’s all part of the construction work for the new Dubai blue metro line and the country-wide Etihad Rail project.

Yes, the cones, cranes, and extra traffic you may face during this construction might test your patience, but the bigger picture looks promising: a more connected Dubai, with shorter commutes and better transport options for everyone.

What’s new renovating on the Roads?

The Dubai RTA announcement shared that certain roads in Mirdif and Academic City are now closed to allow construction teams to work safely on the Dubai blue metro line.

In Mirdif, the busy roundabout between 5th and 8th Street near City Centre Mirdif is blocked off. Traffic is being rerouted, but don’t worry, the RTA has made sure shoppers can still get into the mall and residents can reach their homes without too much trouble.

Meanwhile, in Academic City, 63rd Street has been shut in both directions near the German International School. New entry and exit points have been added to make school runs smoother. The Dubai RTA announcement has urged drivers to stay alert for signs and allow extra time.

Why the Buzz About the Dubai Blue Metro Line?

There’s a good reason the Dubai blue metro line has everyone talking. It’s the city’s latest metro line, and it’s going to change how thousands of people travel every day. For the first time ever, a metro line will cross Dubai Creek and connect areas like Mirdif, International City, Silicon Oasis, and even Academic City.

According to the latest Dubai RTA announcement, once it opens in 2029, you’ll be able to get from home to Dubai International Airport in just 20 minutes. It’ll also help cut down traffic on the roads by up to 20 per cent.

The best part? The new stations won’t just be functional, they’ll be beautiful too. In fact, the foundation stone was laid at what will be the world’s tallest metro station. So yes, the Dubai blue metro line is more than just another train; it’s a symbol of the city’s future.

Sharjah Closures and Etihad Rail Works

Sharjah isn’t being left out. As part of the Etihad Rail construction, the roads around Mleiha and the Sharjah Ring Road near University Bridge are closed until the end of August. This national train project is a big deal, it’ll eventually connect all seven emirates and even link the UAE with neighbouring Gulf countries.

The Dubai RTA announcement reminded everyone that these closures are temporary, but the long-term benefits are worth the wait. Once the Dubai blue metro line and Etihad Rail are complete, commuting between cities will be so much more fast, easy, and way less stressful.

A Little Patience Now May Bring A Lot of Ease Later

Yes, roadblocks and traffic diversions aren’t fun. But as the Dubai RTA announcement made clear, these are short-term changes for long-term gain.

The Dubai blue metro line is just an aspect of the city’s bigger plan to create what’s called a “20-minute city”, a place where you can get to work, school, shops, and healthcare within just 20 minutes of where you live. It means less time stuck in traffic, more time with your family, and a healthier lifestyle for everyone.

Until then, the RTA is asking people to plan ahead, keep a check for updates, and be extra careful on the roads. And maybe give yourself a few more minutes in the morning, just in case your usual turn is blocked off.
