September 15, 2025 | Dubai, UAE: The Mall of Emirates Expansion now marks a historic Dh5 Billion investment to transform Dubai’s landmark retail hub into a centre of cutting-edge lifestyle and cultural nexus. This event is coinciding with the two-decade celebration of the mall, with the project that would just redefine the taste from retail to entertainment, all being under the same roof.
Since opening in 2005, Mall of the Emirates has been a retail pioneer. The Mall of Emirates Expansion represents the largest enhancement in its history, adding state-of-the-art facilities while preserving its legacy as a community landmark.
Massive Retail Space Addition
The Mall of Emirates Expansion will introduce 20,000 square meters of additional retail space, accommodating 100 new stores spanning fashion, luxury, and lifestyle categories. Majid Al Futtaim has already committed Dh1.1 billion to preliminary improvements, including structural enhancements and upgraded common areas to support the forthcoming retail precincts.

This development enables leading global and regional brands to establish flagship outlets in Dubai’s foremost shopping venue, further elevating its status on the world retail stage. With flagship global brands, immersive entertainment venues, and personalised digital services all rolling out in carefully phased stages through 2027, this transformation cements Mall of the Emirates’ role as a “Mall of New Possibilities,” poised to lead the Gulf region’s booming retail sector into a future of experiential, eco-responsible destination shopping.
Cultural Hub and Entertainment Venues
A highlight of the Mall of Emirates Expansion is the New Covent Garden cultural hub, developed in collaboration with Dubai Performing Arts Academy. The venue has a seating capacity of 600 people in the theatre that would open in late 2025, ten dance and practice studios, a Black Box Theatre, and even a wellness studio for pilates and yoga.

As the first dedicated cultural precinct within the mall, it will host Arabic plays, international ballet, comedy, opera, and West End musical productions, positioning Dubai as a global arts destination.
Phased Development Timeline
The Mall of Emirates Expansion follows a phased rollout to ensure seamless integration with existing operations. Infrastructure milestones include the completion of a Dh165 million bridge linking Umm Suqeim Street to the mall and the upgrade of parking facilities.

Cultural and retail spaces are scheduled to open in late 2025, with lifestyle and entertainment precincts, including the world’s most advanced IMAX at VOX Cinemas, set to be ready by 2026. The first outdoor dining courtyard, featuring international culinary concepts, will debut in early 2027.
Anniversary Celebrations and Special Events
In celebration of the Mall of Emirates Expansion and its 20th anniversary, a month-long programme runs through September 2025. Highlights include the Global Runway Under the FASHION DOME on September 13, featuring live DJ sets and runway showcases of THAT Concept Store’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection.

On September 20, aerial dance group Bandaloop performs against the mall’s architectural backdrop, and shoppers earn 20× SHARE points for 24 hours. AllSaints’ complimentary customisation lab operates September 17–29, allowing patrons to personalise anniversary apparel.
Future Vision and Market Position
Looking ahead, the Mall of Emirates Expansion underpins the mall’s 2030 vision as a “Mall of New Possibilities”. Ahmed Galal Ismail, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Holding, states this Dh5 billion transformation demonstrates the company’s commitment to world-class retail and lifestyle experiences.

As the Gulf retail market grows to an estimated $390 billion by 2028, Mall of the Emirates welcomed over 40 million visitors in 2024 and maintains 97% occupancy across Majid Al Futtaim’s 29 malls. The Mall of Emirates Expansion positions this landmark to capitalise on regional growth while setting new benchmarks for integrated retail and cultural destinations.
By integrating flagship global brands, immersive entertainment venues, and phygital retail concepts, the Mall of Emirates Expansion secures the destination’s leadership in GCC retail innovation and sets new benchmarks for integrated lifestyle hubs through 2030 and beyond.
