Dubai- UAE: Dubai is currently in the making of 13 megaprojects shaping tomorrow. The skyline of Dubai has been a banner of ambition and novelty of architecture and boldness. The city has provided the world with iconic landmarks over the last few decades that include the Burj Khalifa and Palm Jumeirah among others and has re-established what contemporary cities can accomplish. The most interesting change is yet to come. A range of massive megaprojects, some of them re-developed, some re-engineered, and others completely new, is to transform the infrastructure, lifestyle and global image of Dubai over generations.

Megaprojects In Making

Al Maktoum International Airport

The Al Maktoum International Airport was inaugurated in 2010 at the time of cargo operations, but it is currently scheduled to be expanded to be the biggest capacity airport in the world. In 2024, the government of Dubai reaffirmed long-term expansion projects which will enable the airport to accommodate 260 million passengers per year. The vision of the airport will be the five parallel runways, over 400 aircraft gates, five passenger terminals and a train network.

The airport will be on the outskirts of Jebel Ali in Dubai South, and it will be at the centre of a huge aerotropolis with residential neighbourhoods, commercial (logistics) areas. As one of the megaprojects shaping tomorrow, it should be entirely finished by approximately 2050.

Burj Azizi

The Burj Azizi will be one of the tallest constructions in the world with the height of 725 metres located on the Sheikh Zayed road. The tower, which was designed by Azizi Developments, will be over 131 storeys tall and will have residential, hotel, retail and entertainment areas. The project will have an ultra-luxury vertical shopping center, tallest nightclub in the world with one of the tallest observation decks in the world. Burj Azizi will also incorporate wide scale wellness facilities like a swimming pool, spa, gyms and yoga centres that will be spread all over the tower as the tower is designed as a vertical city. It is one of the largest megaprojects shaping tomorrow.

Dubai Creek Tower

The original design of Dubai Creek Tower was meant to be higher than Burj Khalifa however the work was stalled during redesign. The tower is situated in the Dubai creek harbour and it is one of the key features in the long term planning of Emaar in the location. A redesigned version of the tower, which was published in early 2026 by Emaar founder Mohamed Alabbar, has indicated a new development. The tower, though not being disclosed yet in final design details, is likely to become a skyline of the Dubai Creek.

Dubai Loop

Dubai Loop is a proposed underground transport system which is designed by the Boring Company founded by Elon Musk. It was announced in February 2025 and the project will transport up to 20,000 passengers per hour along a series of tunnels. Its initial phase may start as early as 2026, yet the project is still under review of the technical and economic feasibility of the project by the Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai. The Dubai Loop, as one of the megaprojects shaping tomorrow, can greatly decrease travel time and relieve congestion within the city in case it is implemented.

Dubai Museum of Art

Dubai Museum of Art or DUMA will be a floating cultural landmark that will come out of the waters of the Dubai creek. Representing the architectural design of one of the most famous Japanese architects, Tadao Ando, the museum was unveiled by his highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Not only an exhibition area, but in itself, DUMA will be an architectural masterpiece, with an integration of art, water and design to make the city a new cultural place.

Dubai Square

Dubai Square is a huge integrated project that will be constructed along the Dubai creek and it is designed by Emaar Properties. The project will cover 7.4 million square metres and comprise approximately 10,000 homes, over 1,500 hotel rooms and a massive retail area. It will also include recreational amenities, parks and a wildlife reserve. The Dubai square is a smart and sustainable urban destination and is projected to be finished in three years.

Dubai World Islands

One of the biggest coastal megaprojects shaping tomorrow is the Dubai World Islands. The project started in the year 2003 and is in the shape of a world map, however, construction began to be slowed down in 2008. It started up again in later years with a development by the Kleindienst Group, known as the Heart of Europe. Anantara World Islands Resort opened in 2021 was a key milestone, and there were also attractions like the Raining Street at voco Monaco Dubai. The further development of the islands is guaranteed by the increased number of luxury hotels and themed resorts.

Ghaf Woods

Ghaf Woods is the first residential community in Dubai that uses woods and is built by Majid Al Futtaim named after the national tree of the UAE. The project will be situated on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road at the point of Global Village and will bring the introduction of approximately 35,000 trees on a land area of 738,000 square meters. Ghaf Woods will be a unique urban setting with nature, residential living, leisure facilities and a new shopping mall and will be delivered in eight phases between the present and 2031.

Palm Jebel Ali

Palm Jebel Ali is facing redevelopment, which has stopped being built over 15 years. The man-made island is 13.4 kilometres long and 110 kilometres in length, the size being double that of Palm Jumeirah. It will come with new plans that consist of luxury homes, resorts, beach clubs and celebration villages, which will have the capacity to accommodate approximately 35,000 families. The first property delivery will commence in 2027, and it is situated in the western coast of Dubai.

The Island Dubai

The Island is a project announced in 2017 and currently under construction and is off the coast of Jumeirah. Though rumors had it that it will be the first casino in the UAE, the project will involve luxury hospitality and entertainment. As one of the megaprojects shaping tomorrow, the island will consist of MGM, Bellagio and Aria hotels, Lagoons, restaurants and enormous entertainment spaces. It is hoped to be opened in the second half of 2028.

The Future Loop

The Future Loop is a climate controlled walking infrastructure that is aimed at allowing people to walk in Dubai all year round. The loop that will be two kilometres long will link some of the biggest landmarks in the city such as the Museum of the Future, Dubai World Trade Centre, Emirates Towers and DIFC. The project has an iconic bridge structure that would enhance sustainability, health and urban connectivity.

Six Senses Dubai Marina

The Six Senses Dubai Marina is to be the tallest residential tower in the world. As one of the megaprojects shaping tomorrow, the building that will be constructed 122 storeys high above the Marina will house 251 wellness-oriented residential units. It will have amenities such as sound-healing rooms, interiors that are designed to be well and a big lap pool. Its construction is projected to be finished in 2028.

Therme Dubai

Therme Dubai is a 2 billion Dhs wellness megaproject that will be located at Zabeel Park adjacent to One Za’abeel. The complex will have a giant interactive park, the largest indoor botanical garden in the world and three 18-metre waterfalls to accommodate approximately 1.7 million visitors each year. Therme Dubai will be a height of 100 metres and 500,000 square feet in area and is planned to open in 2028 and has been referred to as a landmark on the skyline of Dubai.

Airports and transport systems, cultural landmarks, and luxury islands are some of the developments that contribute to the formation of the next era of the city.
