August 27, 2025 | Muscat: The new Oman golden visa is giving investors, families, and retirees a long-term way to live and invest in the Sultanate. Announced by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, this visa allows residency for either 5 years or 10 years depending on the size of investment.

Officials say this step will make Oman more attractive for international investors while also giving people who have lived here for many years more peace of mind. It is part of a wider effort to strengthen Oman’s economy and position it as a stable, welcoming country for business and lifestyle.

What is the Oman Golden Visa?

The Oman golden visa is a special residency programme that offers long-term security. Unlike short-term visas that are tied to jobs, this visa allows residents to stay and build their future without uncertainty.

Applications can be done online through the Invest Oman platform, a government-backed digital system designed to make things easier. The platform also offers other services such as transferring company registrations, applying for commercial ownership, and checking application progress.

For many people, the digital-first process means less paperwork, shorter waiting times, and a clearer path to residency.

Two Options for the Oman Golden Visa

The Oman golden visa comes with two clear choices:

  • Tier 1 – 10-year residency
    • Requires an investment of at least 500,000 OMR in property, a company, or government bonds.
    • Another option is to establish a company that employs at least 50 Omani citizens.
    • The visa is valid for 10 years and can be renewed. The card fee is 551 OMR.
  • Tier 2 – 5-year residency
    • Requires an investment of at least 250,000 OMR in property or a company.
    • Retirees already living in Oman can also qualify if they earn a stable monthly income of at least 4,000 OMR.
    • The visa lasts for 5 years, renewable, with a card fee of 326 OMR.

These two tiers make the programme accessible not just for very large investors, but also for middle-level investors and retirees who want to secure their place in Oman.

Why Oman Introduced the Golden Visa?

The Oman golden visa is not just about attracting money, it’s about building long-term relationships with people who want to stay. Officials believe that with more investors and residents committing to Oman, the country can strengthen important sectors like real estate, tourism, technology, and manufacturing.

The scheme also supports Oman Vision 2040, a national plan to diversify the economy away from oil and create new opportunities for growth. By encouraging stable investments, Oman hopes to see more jobs created for its citizens and more business confidence from abroad.

Benefits for Families and Retirees

For many families, the Oman golden visa is more than a document, it is a way to plan their future with confidence. Parents investing in property feel secure knowing they can live in Oman for many years without the stress of renewing work visas.

Retirees who have lived and worked in Oman also see this as a gift. They now have the option to stay in the country they call home without depending on employment contracts. With a fixed income requirement, retirees can enjoy their later years in comfort while contributing to the local economy.

Digital Access Through Invest Oman

The government has made sure that the Oman golden visa is easy to apply for. With the Invest Oman platform, the process has become faster and more transparent. Applicants can upload documents, track their progress, and even handle property or business transfers online.

This digital approach also reflects Oman’s push to modernise services and create an environment where investors feel confident and supported.

As Oman works to build a stronger and more diverse economy, this initiative is expected to play a big role in shaping its future. The Oman golden visa opens doors not only for individuals but also for the nation, creating stronger communities and lasting partnerships.
