August 9, 2025 | Dubai, UAE: In a move that’s been long anticipated in the tech world, OpenAI has unveiled GPT-5, the latest large language model powering what it calls the ChatGPT Advanced Version. Touted as a leap toward more “expert-level” interaction, the new version is said to mimic the depth and reasoning of a PhD-level thinker.
CEO Sam Altman didn’t mince words during the launch: “This is the most useful model we’ve ever built.” Whether it’s writing, coding, tutoring, or problem-solving, GPT-5 promises to be more than just a chatbot; it’s designed to be a serious tool for everyday use.
What’s New in GPT-5?
Beyond the marketing buzz, GPT-5 comes with substantial upgrades under the hood. One standout feature is its ability to handle extended reasoning over longer conversations. It can manage input prompts as long as full books up to 400,000 tokens—and still deliver coherent responses without losing track of context.

For those who use ChatGPT regularly, the differences may seem subtle at first. However, when tackling more complex questions, such as debugging a faulty code snippet or summarising a dense research article, the advanced version reportedly delivers deeper and more structured outputs than its predecessors.
OpenAI also says GPT-5 performs better in factual accuracy, with fewer “hallucinations”, the AI industry term for when models invent false information. According to the company, it has cut such errors by nearly 80% in internal testing.
ChatGPT, Now With a Bit of Personality
A new feature gaining attention is the ability to tweak the AI’s personality. Users can ask ChatGPT to respond in a more formal, supportive, sarcastic, or even humorous tone, depending on the task at hand.
Think of it as picking your co-pilot: need help drafting a professional email? Choose the formal mode. Want a second opinion on your joke for a best man’s speech? Try witty or sarcastic.
The rollout also introduces memory functions that allow GPT-5 to retain details across sessions. If you prefer concise answers or always ask for bullet points, it will start doing so without being reminded.
Access and Pricing: What You Need to Know
The good news? GPT-5 is available to all users of ChatGPT. But there’s a catch. Free users can try it, though with usage caps. Once those limits are reached, the system may revert to lighter versions, such as GPT-5 mini.
For full access, there’s the Pro tier—priced at $200/month, offering extended usage, faster responses, and access to GPT-5 Pro, a version designed for power users such as developers, researchers, and content creators.

OpenAI also announced tighter integration with tools like Google Calendar, Gmail, and document editors. In theory, you could ask GPT-5 to plan a week’s schedule, email a summary to your team, and prep your grocery list all in a single thread.
Universities and Startups Eye Use Cases
GPT-5 isn’t just a tool for individuals. Universities and startups are already experimenting with the model for educational content, legal summaries, and product ideation. Professors are testing it for creating course material; small businesses are using it for customer engagement and marketing drafts.
Developers, too, are paying attention. Early adopters from platforms like Vercel and Replit report improved debugging and UI generation capabilities. GPT-5 not only understands code—it explains it, rewrites it, and often improves on it.

While OpenAI is confident about the power of GPT-5, not everyone is on board just yet. Some AI ethicists warn that increased reasoning abilities also come with new risks—like models sounding authoritative even when they’re wrong.
The company states that it’s addressing these concerns through ongoing alignment work, more transparent responses, and increased user control. Red-teaming and safety testing were reportedly expanded ahead of the rollout.
PhD Brain or Just Better Packaging?
GPT-5 may not be artificial general intelligence, but it’s arguably the closest thing available today to a widely accessible, reasoning-oriented digital assistant. Whether you view it as a breakthrough or simply a smarter upgrade, the ChatGPT Advanced Version is aimed at reshaping how people accomplish tasks.
Still, like every tool, it’ll be judged not just by its demos but by how it holds up in real-world use. For now, though, GPT-5 seems ready to take on that challenge.
