May 9, 2025, Pakistan- The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a major decision to shift the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This move comes after rising military tensions between India and Pakistan. The PCB shifts PSL to UAE to ensure the safety of players and officials, especially foreign cricketers who expressed concerns about the situation.

Considering the military tensions between India and Pakistan on the rise, the Board of Cricket for Pakistan has, therefore, come to a strategic decision to shift the Pakistan Super League (PSL)  to the UAE. International players, especially those from foreign lands, have shown concern over the developments and have said that it is a matter of safety for players and officials alike.

Why PCB Shifts PSL to UAE?

With war fever breaking out between India and Pakistan, the PCB shifts PSL to UAE. Places in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir were struck by Indian military action on Thursday as an act of reprisal for a terror strike at Pahalgam on April 22, which had killed 26 persons, mostly tourists.

Because of these developments, the PCB found the continuation of the league in Pakistan unsafe. The last eight matches that were to be played in Rawalpindi, Multan, and Lahore will now be played in the UAE. The PCB shifts PSL to UAE so that domestic and foreign players alike feel safe and can concentrate on the game.

Mohsin Naqvi, PCB Chairman, said that the decision was made to placate the concerns of all players involved. He opined that the shift of the PSL to the UAE by the PCB was justifiably undertaken to protect the interests of everyone involved in the tournament.

Impact on Players and Fans

PCB shifts PSL to UAE, both for security reasons and because several foreign players, mainly the English, were contemplating quitting the league. Reports from the British media indicated that English cricketers feared for their safety and might head back home, should the situation continue.

The move of matches to the UAE ensures that the league continues without any more stoppages. Nevertheless, this decision has disappointed numerous local fans who were eager to watch their teams play in actual stadiums in Pakistan. The PCB shifts PSL to UAE with full knowledge that the domestic audience will suffer due to this, but then again, they consider the safety of players and staff their top priority.

The PCB has yet to announce the new schedule of play for the remaining matches. As per government officials, as soon as arrangements have been finalized, the exact dates and venues in the UAE will be announced.

List of Rescheduled PSL Matches

The PCB shifts PSL to UAE for the following key matches:

Match NumberOriginal VenueNew Venue (UAE)
1RawalpindiUAE
2MultanUAE
3LahoreUAE
4RawalpindiUAE
5MultanUAE
6QualifierUAE
7Eliminator 1UAE
8FinalUAE

The PCB shifts PSL to UAE for all these matches to ensure the tournament reaches its conclusion without further risk.

Looking Ahead

The shifting of the PSL to the UAE by the PCB comes at a time when the very test of maintaining the dichotomy between sports and politics is unfolding. Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that the live matches will be missed dearly by Pakistani fans, but that the PCB will always look at the future of the league and the welfare of players first.

The PCB moves PSL to the UAE in the hope that the tournament will be conducted smoothly, and in the hope that all stakeholders, including fans and sponsors, will come on board in support of this decision. Meanwhile, with the situation unfolding, cricket lovers worldwide are keenly observing how the league handles this new challenge.

In short, it is to ensure the welfare of all involved and support the spirit of cricket during troubling times that the PCB moves the PSL to the UAE. The new schedule and venues will be announced in due course, with the action expected to resume in the UAE shortly.
