As a matter of fact, Dubai has recently fallen in the top region and second most favored destination in the world in terms of winter holidays, a fact that attributes to the increasing popularity of the city to tourists in search of adventure, sunshine and culture. 

However, beauty and charm aside, it has with it significant rules for tourists in Dubai that every tourist visiting the emirate must know and respect before stepping into its borders. The crime rate in Dubai is extremely low, and the city is regarded as one of the safest in the entire world, yet this is backed by laws and traditions which are not very familiar to the visitors. By observing them, you not only avoid getting into trouble, but you also make your trip a smooth, enjoyable and cultural experience.

  • Wear Simple and Adhere to Local standards.

Among the rules for tourists in Dubai is the advice against the issue of dressing and appearance in the streets. Dubai is an open and multicultural metropolis and the majority of styles of clothing are tolerated, yet visitors are supposed to wear modest clothes in some places. 

In beaches, pools and the privately operated resorts, the swimmers are allowed to wear normal swimming costumes like bikinis and trunks. However, tourists are not supposed to use revealing clothes when they visit malls, parks, historical neighbourhoods, religious places, or any other family friendly places as a part of rules for tourists in Dubai.

Shoulders, arms and legs have to be covered as well as when going to mosques or religious places, one has to wear conservative clothes (even the women have to wear head coverings in some places).

The rules for tourists in Dubai is that alcohol consumption only occurs in licensed places, i.e. in bars, restaurants, hotels and clubs and it is also only limited to adults with ages of 21 years and above.

Dubai has one of the most stringent laws of privacy in the world and the other important item in the rules for tourists in Dubai involve taking photographs. Photos or videos of people are prohibited to be made without their express agreement and the prohibition is valid even in such places as parks, streets, and malls.

Cybercrime and penal codes have tough punitive measures on breaches of privacy laws that may be fined and imprisonment. In a recent instance, a man was made to pay huge compensation due to taking and sharing photos of other people without their consent. 

  • Prescription Drug – Know What You Can Carry.

Carrying prescription medicine by tourists is normal, but Dubai has certain regulations on medicines that are carried to the country, particularly controlled substances. There are laws on some drugs legal in other nations which are limited or need a pre-vetting. 

Carrying of controlled drugs by travellers has to have a doctor prescription, a recent medical report, and a written account of the traveller by his medical practitioner. Medications may not exceed three months of importation although it is highly advisable to seek an online license with the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention beforehand.
