UAE- 13th January, 2026: The cultural and economic environment of the region is to be changed as a new Dh500-million mega Sharjah Exhibition Centre and convention centre will be launched, which was announced by Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and the Ruler of Sharjah.

An Action Plan In The Development Of Sharjah

The ambitious project was unveiled by Sheikh Dr Sultan and that is a significant move towards the long term infrastructure and events plan of Sharjah. The modern state-of-art Sharjah exhibition centre hall is to be ready in 2027 and it will further make the emirate a desired venue in international and regional events.

The new locale will be a versatile center that will host numerous exhibitions, conventions, festivals, and cultural activities. The Sharjah exhibition centre is meant to increase the international hosting capacity of events in Sharjah and promote tourism, business exchange and cultural interactions all year round.

Location And Design

The Sharjah exhibition centre project was initially scheduled to be located close to the Sharjah Mosque; however, engineers chose to locate the project elsewhere close to Emirates- Al Dhaid- Khorfakkan roads with easy access and traffic flow. The property cost Dh146 million, which is an important point to highlight that the government was strategic in choosing connectivity and access.

Construction will commence immediately with designs being almost finalized. The project planners are planning to deliver it in 22 months, and the official opening is planned in November 2027 until the 46th Sharjah International Book Fair.

Cultural And Economic Effect

New Home of the Sharjah international book fair.

The Sharjah International Book Fair, which is one of the most attended events in the UAE, will be relocated to this new site in November 2027. Previous fairs have already seen millions of visitors and participants, which proves that Sharjah is recognized as a cultural center in the world.

Beyond the Book Fair

Although the book fair continues to be a high profile event the new Sharjah exhibition centre will host various exhibitions and conventions – commercial expos to international festivals. There have already been events like the Xposure International Photography Festival that have been reallocated to the new location and more events to come.  The project will boost tourism, hospitality, retail and other related industries through the expansion of exhibitions in Sharjah, which will boost the competitiveness of the emirate within the market of regional events.

Network Mobility And Infrastructure

As major events are moved, the governments have also stipulated the road layouts to facilitate ease of road access and ease congestion along major areas. These actions coincide with the current activities of enhancing the infrastructure of the populace across the emirate.

Along with the new Sharjah exhibition centre, the idea of a future train station around the crossroads of Al Khulafa Al Rashideen was addressed, which will additionally improve mobility and accessibility on the territory of the discussed district.

The Emerging International Position Of Sharjah

Sharjah keeps developing the image of culture, economic and educational hub in the UAE. The emirate is expanding its global popularity with the presence of its current projects such as Sharjah International Book Fair as well as the planned ambitious new development such as the mega Sharjah exhibition centre. The project will be aligned with the current government programs of enhancing business tourism, increasing transport connectivity and enhancing the image of Sharjah as a global cultural capital as part of long-term diversification of tourism and economy.
