UAE Central Bank Fines Hit Dh222.92M: One Bank Alone Pays Dh200M

UAE Central Bank Fines 2026: Dh222.92M Total, Dh200M Penalty

UAE Central Bank fines target foreign bank branches and their executives, with weak anti-money laundering controls at the centre of the crackdown.

Dh222.92 million. That is how much UAE Central Bank fines have added up to so far in 2026, counting penalties announced from January to October. One of them dwarfs the rest: on October 30, the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) hit a foreign bank branch with a Dh200 million fine. Here is how the UAE Central Bank fines break down.

Dh200 Million Fine: The Biggest of the UAE Central Bank Fines This Year

The CBUAE announced the penalty on October 30, 2026. It was imposed on the UAE branch of a foreign bank, which holds a licence to operate in the country.

The regulator did not name the bank or its home country. It is the largest of this year’s UAE Central Bank fines.

Why UAE Central Bank Fines Were Imposed

The CBUAE says its own examinations turned up serious, repeated lapses in the branch’s controls against money laundering and terrorism financing. Governance and compliance management fell short too.

This was a pattern, not a one-off, and that is what drove these UAE Central Bank fines.

Executives Face UAE Central Bank Fines Too

The bank’s CEO was fined Dh500,000.

The CBUAE also ordered a mandatory remediation programme, checked by an independent validator. Both the CEO and the chief compliance officer must go through a fit and proper re-assessment.

Put simply, UAE Central Bank fines now reach people, not just balance sheets.

Emirates 24|7 counts six penalties from January to October. Three hit institutions, three hit officials, and every one involved a foreign bank branch.

Back on June 24, a different foreign bank branch was fined Dh20 million. The reason was repeated gaps in its anti-money laundering, terror financing and sanctions controls. The branch’s head of compliance, who also serves as money laundering reporting officer, was fined Dh300,000 personally.

In July, another branch paid Dh1.82 million for a consumer protection breach. It had missed the seven-day deadline to issue a liability letter.

Add it all up and UAE Central Bank fines total Dh222.92 million this year.

Where the Latest UAE Central Bank Fines Stand

The Dh200 million fine is ten times the June penalty. It also matches the Dh200 million imposed on an exchange house in May 2025, another case involving money laundering failures.

Seen together, UAE Central Bank fines keep coming back to the same weak spot: anti-money laundering controls.

What UAE Central Bank Fines Mean for Banks

The pattern in 2026 is hard to miss. UAE Central Bank fines are landing on weak controls and on the people in charge of them.

Banks have little room to treat compliance as a box-ticking exercise.
