August 10, 2025 | Dubai, UAE: Get ready for an exciting break, a UAE long holiday might be heading our way in early September with Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday. Many residents are already starting to plan how they’ll spend what could be a restful and meaningful long weekend.

This occasion, recognised as an official UAE public holiday, is part of the country’s annual calendar. And depending on how the dates line up, we could all be looking at a three-day weekend, the kind of break that offers a much-needed pause before the year picks up speed again.

When’s the Next UAE Public Holiday?

The next UAE public holiday is expected to mark Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (Mawlid Al Nabawi), which falls during the Islamic month of Rabi Al-Awwal. Based on moon sighting estimates, that date is likely to be either Thursday, September 4 or Friday, September 5.

If the government officially declares Friday as the day off, it would give people across the Emirates a long holiday, a full three-day weekend from Friday to Sunday. That’s music to the ears of anyone craving time to relax, travel, or spend time with family.

Of course, the exact date will be confirmed closer to the time, but the likelihood of a break is strong and the buzz is already building.

How People Are Reacting to the Potential Long Weekend

The idea of a long holiday is always welcome, but this one feels especially timely. With summer winding down, residents are ready for a pause. Travel bookings have already picked up, with families eyeing weekend escapes to Oman, Ras Al Khaimah, or even a quiet staycation within the city.

Others are planning to use the day to connect spiritually. After all, Prophet Muhammad Birthday is not just another day off, it’s a time for reflection, peace, and remembrance. Many people choose to spend it attending mosque gatherings or simply slowing down with loved ones.

“This kind of break gives us a chance to catch our breath, It’s not about big celebrations like a UAE Eid holiday, it’s about appreciating the quiet and using the time well,” said Leena, a Sharjah-based designer.

What Makes This UAE Long Holiday Different?

Unlike a UAE Eid holiday, which often comes with large celebrations, meals, and family visits, Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday is marked with more gentle observances. There’s no pressure to plan something big and that’s exactly why many people look forward to it.

You’ll likely find cities a bit calmer. Some may spend the day in prayer or reflecting on the Prophet’s teachings. Others might use the day to switch off and reset before work and school routines kick back in.

And if the holiday does fall on a Friday, the UAE holiday becomes even more valuable giving people that perfect balance of rest and meaning.

What We Know About UAE Public Holiday Rules

Under new rules announced in 2025, the UAE government can move UAE public holidays (except for Eid) to create longer weekends. This is part of a broader effort to improve work-life balance and encourage local tourism.

That means the upcoming holiday, if it falls on Thursday could still be shifted to Friday. And that shift would turn a simple day off into a proper UAE holiday.

With these changes in place, even residents who usually work weekends are keeping an eye out for official announcements.

Looking Ahead: What’s Left for 2025?

After Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday, we still have another big UAE public holiday in the calendar, National Day, which falls on December 2 and 3. That, too, could lead to a UAE holiday, depending on how the dates fall.

And of course, UAE Eid holidays will return next year with even more extended breaks. For now, all signs point to a well-timed UAE holiday in early September. Whether it’s spent relaxing at home, travelling somewhere quiet, or taking a moment to reflect during Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday, this break could be one of the year’s most peaceful.

While we wait for official confirmation, the excitement is already building because sometimes, just knowing a holiday is coming is enough to lift everyone’s mood.

So mark your calendar, plan ahead, and stay tuned. The next UAE holiday might be closer than you think  and it’s one you’ll want to make the most of.
