December 14, 2025 | Dubai, UAE: Great news for us working overseas! The UAE has been given the official go-ahead: the UAE New Year holiday for private sector is set for January 1, 2026. It gives us a full day off at the beginning of 2026, which is quite exciting for all employees working in the Emirates. It belongs to the state initiative of maintaining a single common calendar of a unified public holiday that will suit both the state and the private sector employees.

According to the Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, the UAE New Year holiday for private sector has been confirmed. Here are the key dates:

Official Holiday Date:

  • Thursday, January 1, 2026 – UAE New Year Holiday (Paid day off for private sector employees)

Additional Opportunity:

  • Friday, January 2, 2026 – Remote work day for federal employees (private sector employees can request leave for an extended weekend)

Authoritative Assurance and Vacation Information

The initiative will ensure that we receive the same holiday benefits as our counterparts in the public sector, a sign that the government is determined to make sure that all are treated equally.

The Federal Authority to Government Human Resources raised a red flag that this will be a fully paid holiday for the UAE New Year holiday for private sector, hence we can roll into 2026 with family, friends or a warm and relaxing weekend.

It will come out formally in the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is, of course, the routine, but since the country has a united calendar, the same number of public holidays and dates are typically granted to both the public and the private workers every year.

  • Thursday, January 1 – Official paid holiday
  • Friday, January 2 – Take one day of annual leave
  • Saturday, January 3 – Regular weekend
  • Sunday, January 4 – Regular weekend

Total: 4 consecutive days off by using just 1 day of annual leave!

The UAE New Year holiday for private sector can be planned smarter to ensure that you have a long break without burning up your annual leave. Federal workers will also have a remote work day on Friday, January 2, an additional advantage to the workers in the public sector. Though that is limited to government people, you can enquire of your own boss about flexible arrangements- perhaps something of that sort, I do not know.

It is not merely a vacation, but it is an indicator of the increased attention of the UAE to the concept of work-life balance and worker welfare, for the UAE New Year holiday for private sector With the provision of equal benefits to the workers of the private sector as it is to those of the public sector, the government is cementing a just and inclusive workplace in all industries. There are no witnesses left behind in the celebrations.

The Businesses are already preparing for the UAE New Year holiday for Private sector retail shops, hotels, and entertainment places are all adjusting their schedules and workforce to the day. It should be expected that there will be a buzz of people queueing up to celebrate and assemble, particularly during the days before the holiday.

Upcoming 2026 Public Holidays:

  • January 1, 2026 – New Year’s Day
  • March 2026 – Eid Al Fitr (dates subject to moon sighting)
  • May 2026 – Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha (dates subject to moon sighting)
  • Additional public holidays throughout the year

The business sector vacation is the start of a year that is going to be both relaxing and partying. The first break will be followed by the Eid Al Fitr in March, and then the Arafah Day and Eid al Adha in May and some other public holidays. 

The rule of the transfer of public holidays, according to which employers can transfer some of the holidays to the beginning or end of the week, provides even greater versatility in the calendar for the UAE New Year holiday for private sector.
