August 27, 2025 | Dubai, UAE: As a pivotal change in the academic calendar, there is a week-long UAE school winter holiday. Beginning from December 8, 2025, to January 4, 2026, this amendment to the academic calendar allows families to rest, reconcile, and have fun for a week longer than usual. 

Parents expressed concern that the extended week might negatively impact the children’s academics. The educational institutions assured the parents that the curriculum would be on track according to the 182-day calendar.

The academic authorities have confirmed that this holiday break will not disrupt the ongoing curriculum. Additionally, they have structured teaching materials in a way that all the crucial subjects are incorporated before the holiday begins.

The Principal and CEO of GEMS Metropole School, Motor City, Nav Iqbal, announced that the school has redeveloped its syllabus through integrated chapters and practical learning. ” A strong curriculum must be clear and purposeful”, he said. He further clarified that a roadmap and an extensive learning procedure have been implemented to assist students.

These steps ensure that parents are thoroughly assured that there is no scope for duplication and the child is on a definitive track without missing their studies during the upcoming UAE school winter holidays.

Principal Natalia Svetenok of Woodlem British School, Ajman, emphasized that a retreat boosts learning. Families deserve a true pause; children return brighter for it, she said.

To avoid the loss of curriculum, the school has rearranged its syllabus so that salient learning is practiced before the holiday, while doubt-clearing sessions and discussions will commence after the break. 

Subsequently, after the break, tutors and teachers will adopt a Reboot and Recall Week, which includes assessments, shorter lessons, and mentoring sessions to help students spiral into their academic niche.

At the Uptown International School, there is a dedicated and well-equipped range of educational structures, ensuring that holidays do not affect the school’s curriculum. Principal Colin Gerrie emphasized that the International Baccalaureate (IB) requirements will proceed without the syllabus being affected due to holidays.

We have still managed to plan the delivery of the 240 hours required at IB Diploma level, within the calendared 182 days, Gerrie said. 

The school provides students with academic ACA’s, student-led exhibitions, and extra sessions during holidays to boost students’ confidence. This initiative ensures that UAE school winter holidays are both comforting and enriching for students.

Lisa Johnson, Principal of American Academy for Girls, stated that a four-week winter holiday is in accordance with international standards. We still have a 182-day school year, so the extended break has not reduced learning time — it has simply stretched the academic year a bit, she noted.

The principal further clarified that persistent academic lessons with breaks lead to significant learning loss. A four-week break is not a matter of concern, but a calculated initiative to benefit the faculty and students.
