August 3, 2025 | Dubai, UAE – The long-awaited Zayed National Museum Opening Date has been announced for December 2025. Abu Dhabi’s Zayed National Museum, named after the founding father of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, has been a highly anticipated cultural landmark for the UAE residents. The announcement is also a major milestone for the Saadiyat Cultural District. The place is already a renowned location for institutions such as Louvre Abu Dhabi and teamLab Phenomena.
Story Behind The Zayed National Museum
The museum is made to tell the story of the United Arab Emirates from more than 300,000 years ago. The Zayed National Museum will become home to various rare artefacts, showcasing one of the world’s oldest pearls, which was discovered in Abu Dhabi. The museum will also house folios from the blue quran and an astounding 60-foot reproduction of an ancient Magan boat, which will be displayed in the museum’s atrium.

The museum, under construction for over a decade, will narrate the UAE’s history stretching back over 300,000 years. It will feature a range of rare and significant exhibits, such as one of the world’s oldest pearls found in Abu Dhabi, selected folios from the Blue Quran, and a 60-foot replica of a Magan boat, which will be installed in the museum’s central atrium.
The Zayed National Museum was designed by the UK-based Foster + Partners, and even before opening, it has become a hard-to-miss landmark of the Saadiyat Islands. The architecture is a tribute to the Emirate’s national bird, a falcon, which is a symbol of strength and heritage in Emirati culture. The building has five large steel towers in the shape of a falcon’s wings.

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi said, “As the national museum of the UAE, Zayed National Museum is the legacy of our Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It is a tribute to his boundless belief in people, in their ability to learn, to uphold the values of unity, compassion, and national pride. This museum is more than a place of preservation; it is a promise to future generations, a beacon of our identity, and a space where our story is told not just through objects, but also through emotion, memory, and vision.”
