Dubai, United Arab Emirates – 26 December 2025: Dubai Police have warned both locals and tourists not to get scammed online by buying fake tickets for concerts, sports events, and other entertainment shows, or even making travel reservations. The officials pointed out the necessity of buying tickets only via the official and authorized sites in order to prevent losing money or getting one’s identity stolen.
Rise in Scams Targeting Eventgoers
The alert was issued by the Anti-Fraud Centre, which is a department of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, and the alert is also supported by the current raise of awareness through the **#BewareOfFraud** campaign. The officials think that the online criminals are exploiting the situation of high demand for tickets for the events by setting up fake websites and unauthorized social media accounts that look very similar to those of the official event organizers.
The phishing sites generally use the trademarks and marketing strategies of well-known firms to mislead customers and earn their confidence. Usually, the victims are made to believe that they are getting exclusive access or just paying the lower rates and thus are, they are lured into providing payments or sharing credit card details. Many of them, however, later find that the tickets never existed, or worse, that their financial information has been misused.
Dubai Police reported that such frauds usually get more frequent just before big public events when the demand for tickets is at its peak and the authorized outlets are sold out. Scammers take advantage of the urgency and excitement by promoting time-limited offers or “too-good-to-be-true” discounts.
How to Stay Safe Online?
The officials stressed once more that all ticket purchases ought to be made only through the official organiser’s website or approved ticketing platforms. Buyers are going to be recommended to check the URL again and to verify that the payment features like “https” in the browser URL, are indeed secure. Links that are not asked for and that are shared through social media or messaging should be handled with care.
In addition to that, residents have been advised to use only reliable sources to keep themselves updated about the events, rather than falling for random online advertisements that might be misleading. Prices that are drastically lower than the market rate can often indicate a scam.
Dubai Police called for the public not to hesitate in reporting any suspicious websites or fraudulent activities to them through the Dubai Police Smart App, by dialing 901, or via the eCrime platform, which is solely meant for cybercrime reporting. The police have reiterated their determination to fight online scams and to guard the public against money trickery.
Authorities are very optimistic that through constant education and alertness, the number of digital fraud cases will be reduced and a safer digital experience for both residents and visitors will be promoted.
