January 6, 2026 | UAE: This week SCC held a meeting to deliberate the policies and future projects of Sharjah Department of Public Works (SDPW). The chairman of the SCC is Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi who headed the meeting. It was centred on the SDPW and its serious contribution to city building and sustenance of social amenities. In the discussion, it was shown how the plans of SDPW are in line with the vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi to offer world-class infrastructure to all its citizens and residents.

Boosting Urban Sustainability and Efficiency of Infrastructure

The council was interested in the management of large scale construction and maintenance contracts by SDPW. They paid attention to the necessity to speed up the projects and did not compromise quality or safety. Eng. Ali bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, the SDPW chairman, gave a detailed report of the progress of some of the major civic projects, which included government buildings, community parks and sports amenities.

The SCC said that the infrastructure is responsible for the economic growth of the state of Sharjah. By tapping sustainable materials and energy-efficient designs, the SDPW aims to reduce the environmental impact of the emirate’s expansion. The council reviewed the SDPW’s spending and allotments of resources to ensure that every dirham goes to the common good of making the community as robust and prosperous as possible in the long term.

The members of the council requested allocation of the projects in parts of Sharjah such as the Central and Eastern part of Sharjah. They needed to make sure that the quality of public services of the city centre is the same as those in the remote towns. The SCC promoted a Human-First strategy, according to which the work of the population needed to respond to life in general.

Key issues included the renovation of the old buildings and the addition of drainage systems for battling the seasonal weather issues. The Department restated its commitment to digital transformation. New smart systems allow more timely reporting of maintenance issues and more transparent monitoring of project milestones and bridge the gap between government services and public expectations.

Strategies for the Future of Collaborative Governance

The session was closed with some recommendations to build the partnership between the SCC and the SDPW. The SCC called for increasing site inspections and a joint framework incorporating the local municipal councils from the early planning stages. This inclusive approach means that local voices are shaping projects so that public spaces are functional, and therefore culturally appropriate.

Dr Al Nuaimi made a glowing statement on the SDPW’s transparency and preparedness to respond to changing needs of the emirate, with strict supervision and strategic planning, the SCC and the SDPW are jointly working towards making Sharjah a premier investment destination and model of sustainable urban living.  The council reiterated that the policy discussions are aimed at creating an environment in which the infrastructure would contribute to social stability and economic prosperity.
