UAE January 30th, 2026: Sharjah Police has initiated an operation to crack down on the dangerous drivers, and have impounded eight vehicles after the drivers were caught riding in dangerous stunts on the road, authorities affirmed on Friday.

Police warned motorists that roadways are a common space and that responsible driving is not only a legal requirement, but also a moral one. It is better to play in the rain without risking life by driving too fast, losing control of the vehicle, and irrespective of the road signs, just be in the right place at the right time.

Violent Weather Maximised Irresponsible Behaviour

During the rain last week in Sharjah, different motorists were caught doing dangerous stunts and manoeuvres in the wet roads using their cars. These were not only unsafe to the drivers but also dangerous to the other road users who were passing through the slippery roads.

Bringing out the point that this may easily turn fun into life threatening scenarios, especially during bad weather, the top police officer of Traffic and Patrols Directorate in Sharjah Police Brigadier Khalid Mohammed Al Kay emphasized that such a behavior can turn pleasure into cases that endanger lives.

Cars Seized And Criminal Prosecution

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate took action due to investigation of footage and evidence of careless driving. Eight cars were impounded during the enforcement against the criminals.

Charges and Penalties

Drivers who were involved in the incidents were mentioned in various provisions of the Federal Traffic Law and they included:

  1. Article No. 1(A): Driving in a way that is life-threatening and posing danger to others — a fine of Dh2,000, 23 black points and the possibility of impoundment of the vehicle for up to 60 days.
  1. Article No. 4: Driving without licence plates -fined of Dh3,000, 23 black points, and may be impounded for up to 90 days.

Police also emphasized that unsafe practices including stunts, driving without proper vehicle documentation and drifting are against the traffic rules and are punishable by the law.

Police Advise Against Irresponsible Driving In Unfavourable Weather

A powerful message was sent by Sharjah Police to motorists, and it is that rain is no occasion to go on a thrill ride but to exercise increased caution. Wet roads lower tyre grip, braking distance and control of the vehicle even to experienced drivers becomes difficult. Authorities emphasized that harmless fun can turn into a lethal accident, serious injuries, or a car pile-up quite easily.

Population Supported To Cooperate With The Government

The people were also urged to take initiatives in ensuring safety on the roads by the police. The citizens were advised to report reckless driving or stunts or any dangerous behaviour to the emergency services or non-emergency police numbers. The government emphasized the idea that community participation plays a critical role in accident prevention and in making sure that the roads are safe to all people, particularly in difficult weather conditions.

A Wider Road Safety Campaign By Sharjah Police

The imposition is one of the components of the overall Sharjah Police road safety campaign which is aimed at the curbing of road accidents, deaths and injuries on the emirate roads. There have been similar crackdowns in the UAE and specifically in the times of rain, fog or low visibility.

Sharjah Police reiterated that they were willing to accept no dangerous driving and that they would keep monitoring them on the ground and using digital surveillance systems.
