UAE March 5th, 2026: Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security waives overstay fines due to disruption of flights in airspace closure. The issue has dominated the recent travel news in the UAE when the authorities announced to the relief of the travellers who were trapped as a result of the flight disruptions. The United Arab Emirates has made a humanitarian move toward serving visitors and residents who could not go out of the country due to the abrupt closure of airspace and the suspension of flights.

This ruling was declared by the Federal Authority of Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP), so that the concerned travellers can not be punished due to situations that have no control over them.

UAE Declares Waiver Of Overstay Fines

The government of the UAE has officially waived the overstay fines of the travellers who were unable to leave the country because of the closed airspaces in the region as well as the cancelled flights. This is applicable to those who still stayed in the UAE even after their visa had expired due to cancellation or postponement of their flights.

The authorities said that the waiver would be applied to penalties that were received from February 28, 2026, when flight disruptions had started to be experienced in the region. The government will eliminate these overstay fines to cut down on the monetary cost of individuals whose travel plans were caught in a snarl up.

People Who Stands To Gain In The Overstay Fines Waiver

The exemption of overstay fines is extended to a number of categories of travellers in the UAE. These include:

  • The travellers with tourist visas.
  • Visitors on visit visas.
  • Those who had exit permits.
  • Nationals that had removed their residence permits prior to leaving the country.

All these people might have technically overstayed due to the airspace closure which suspended their flights. In a normal situation, overstaying would translate to fines daily but such fines have been waived because of the unexpected regional situation.

The Rational Behind The Waiving Of The Overstay Fines

The exemption of the overstay fines came as a reaction to unusual regional tensions that caused cancellations and restricted the air traffic. These hiccups could not allow a large number of travellers to depart the UAE on their set dates.

Authorities highlighted that the state of affairs could not be controlled by passengers and it was unjust to subject them to any financial fines. It is a step that emphasises the desire of the UAE to help travellers when they need help in cases of any emergencies and make sure that individuals who are the victims of any disruptions in travel are treated justly.

Granting Relief To Stranded Travellers

The governments have also, along with the waiver of overstay fines, put in place a number of interventions that help stranded passengers. UAE airports have already served thousands of travellers in terms of travel processing and visa services. Airport and customer service centres have special teams that are assisting passengers in managing their travelling arrangements and in addressing problems involving visas. These measures are meant to ensure that the travellers are allowed to stay in the country as flights are being cancelled.

This step of the UAE to cancel the penalty of overstay proves its adherence to humanitarian principles and support of the traveller in crisis conditions. By eliminating these fines, the government will make sure that the visitors and residents that are caught by the airspace block will not be punished because of something that they have no control over. With a slow but steady reopening of flights and stabilization of the situation, the authorities are and will be providing support to passengers and are urging travellers to follow up on the official sources on flight plans and visa acquisition.
