Dates To Know

The astronomical calculations made by Ibrahim Al Jarwan from the Emirates Astronomical Society have predicted that Eid Al Adha 2026 will start on Wednesday, May 27, in line with the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah 1447. The end of the day is conditional on the official notification of the moon sighting, as in the other Islamic festivals. The UAE Cabinet has officially approved three days of public holiday from Wednesday, May 27 to Friday, May 29, with weekend added, making it six days approved holiday.

The UAE Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Education announced that the public sector workers and students will have a 5-day break from May 25 to 29. In addition, residents can book one day of annual leave on Monday, 25 May, and thus have nine days off from Saturday, 23 May all the way to Sunday, 31 May. Tuesday, 5/26 is the spiritually significant day before the start of the festival – Arafat Day.

Eid Al Adha: Faith and Shared Sacrifice

Eid Al Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the sacred sacrifice of the Prophet Ibrahim. The yearly pilgrimage to Mecca, the Hajj is over. The Muslims start their day with early morning congregational prayers at the grand Eid gahs, prayer grounds,  and the local mosques all over the city.

The main ritual is the ‘udhiyah’ or symbolic sacrifice of the livestock. The Dubai Municipality recently released guidelines that encourage the people of Dubai to adopt smart apps for these religious practices. These digital platforms manage the slaughter and distribution of meat to the needy with absolute efficiency. Children receive Eidiyah, which are small gifts or cash from elders, preserving a joyful generational tradition.

This act of charity ensures that every member of the community can participate in the celebratory feast. For those who cannot travel home, these shared rituals create a powerful sense of belonging. The city becomes a collective family where neighbors share meals and set aside past disputes.

Traditional Heritage and Greetings

For a deep-rooted cultural experience, the historic Creek area remains the most authentic setting during Eid Al Adha. During the break, families in crisp traditional attire fill the narrow lanes of Deira and Bur Dubai. The scent of premium oud and incense drifts through the souqs as wooden abras cross the water.

The Jumeirah Mosque and the Diwan Mosque both provide calm and reflective energy during the first morning of the festival. These sites offer a calm and reflective energy on the first morning of the festival. Live cultural performances by traditional Emirati bands are scheduled across major public spaces like Al Seef. These live shows provide a rhythmic soundtrack to the festivities. They allow residents to connect with the customs of their host country in a shared public setting.

There is also one last opportunity to catch the world’s largest natural flower garden at the Miracle Garden until May 31, before it closes for the summer season.
