Dubai, Nov 13th, 2025: A considerable shift for Indian citizens living outside their homeland is going to take place from November 1st, 2025. The main step in the Aadhaar Card update for Indian Expats process has been converted to a complete digital operation.

The Aadhaar Card update for Indian Expats, including UAE residents, is going to be more user-friendly and hassle-free to manage their identity papers without going to India or going to physical centres. According to the new policy, Aadhaar holders are allowed to change four significant personal information details through online mode, their name, address, date of birth and mobile number.

The new Aadhaar Card Update for Indian Expats in the UAE holds great significance. In case you are an Aadhaar cardholder and living in the UAE or in any other foreign country, you can now execute these important updates from the outside, without having to return to India just for the documentation.

The Aadhaar card is an essential identity document in India. It allows one to get access to government services, to be linked with other identity systems (e.g., PAN card) and to participate in KYC (know-your-customer) procedures in banks and other financial institutions, among others.

Online updates from abroad mean that expats will no longer have to face the inconvenience of travelling to India just for Aadhaar updates for Indian Expants, and financial institutions and service providers will be able to run digital KYC more efficiently like for instance, through Aadhaar OTP or video verification instead of accompanying paperwork. This Aadhaar Card update for Indian Expats has a positive impact on the accuracy and convenience of data, helped by cutting down on the number of people waiting for services and the size of the backlogs at registration centres.

Step-by-step process and conditions to note

Here is a step-by-step process on the Aadhaar Card update process:

  • Get onto the official Aadhaar portal.
  • Authenticate yourself with your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
  • Pick “Update Aadhaar” and then choose the particular area you want to alter (name/address/ DOB/ mobile).
  • Submit the necessary documents for validation (if needed).
  • Place your request and monitor its status online. As soon as the verification is done, the alteration will be updated in your Aadhaar profile.

Conditions of most importance to keep in mind:

  • Mobile number linking: Your mobile number must already be linked with your Aadhaar for OTP authentication to use the online update service.
  • Free update window: The demographic updates over the internet for these four fields are free of cost up until 14 June 2026. This allows a lot of time for the changes to be done by the expat community.
  • Document verification: The list of documents accepted by the authorities has been widened. For instance, utility bills (like electricity or water bills) can now be considered valid proof of address for online updates.

A few tips for expatriates

For the new Aadhaar Card update for Indian expats, it is always best to prepare beforehand in terms of the necessary documents. It’s best to obtain a mobile number linked to your Aadhaar; if it is not linked, link it while you have access.

Prepare only acceptable proofs of address beforehand, particularly if you need to change address and do not have recent Indian utility bills. Updates, although free until mid-2026, should be tackled early to avoid a last-minute rush. If you are also required to connect Aadhaar with a PAN card, complete it by the set date to avoid financial discontinuity.

To sum up, the new online channel for the Aadhaar card update of Indian expats is a very positive change. It facilitates the overseas residents to handle their identity records in a much better way without the inconvenience of physical paperwork or travel. If you are an Indian expat and your name, address, date of birth, or mobile number on Aadhaar needs to be updated, it is a good time to do so now.
