November 26, 2025 | Dubai, UAE: Dubai is preparing to introduce a new phase of urban mobility with the advent of Dubai Airtaxi Fare. As the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) collaborates with Joby Aviation to introduce electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles to commercial operation, people are left wondering, what will be the Dubai Airtaxi Fare?
The RTA has planned that commercial air-taxi service will be launched in 2026, and pilot-only operations will be preceded by that time. It will initially operate out of key hubs (vertiports) such as the Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Palm Jumeirah, the Downtown Dubai and the Dubai Marina which will also be linked to the major residential, business and tourist areas.

The cars will have a maximum speed of around 320 km/h (c. 200 mph) and have a range of around 160 km (c. 100 miles) per charge. The idea is to significantly reduce the travel time, for example, the time that formerly took 45 minutes to drive (like between DXB and Palm Jumeirah) may be reduced to 10-12 minutes flying.
What Will be the Dubai Airtaxi Fare?
It is not an easy task to fix the pricing of a completely new mode of transportation, although Dubai authorities provided certain understanding:
| Service | Estimated Fare Range (AED) | Fare Type | Availability | Booking Method | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dubai Air Taxi | 50 – 200 AED | Per minute / Km | Limited to Dubai | Mobile App | Competitive fares, offers aerial routes |
| Uber | 30 – 150 AED | Per minute / Km | Widely available | Mobile App | Dynamic pricing based on demand |
| Careem | 35 – 160 AED | Per minute / Km | Widely available | Mobile App | Regional brand with local market focus |
| Dubai Taxi | 25 – 140 AED | Meter-based | Dubai | Hail/Call | Traditional taxi service |
| Dubai Metro | Flat fare 3 – 7.5 AED | Fixed fare | Dubai | Ticket/Smart Card | Public transit, low cost |
| Dubai Tram | Flat fare 3 AED | Fixed fare | Dubai Marina area | Ticket/Smart Card | Local tram service |
According to the RTA CEO, Ahmed Bahrozyan, the aim is to ensure that the Dubai Airtaxi fare is in the future cheaper than helicopter rides, and eventually, as the economies of scale take effect, the fare would be similar to a ride on an Uber or Careem in the city.
Previously, it was reported that the Dubai Airtaxi Fare would be approximately AED 300 350 Dirhams in within-Dubai trips and AED 800 in inter-emirate trips.
A report suggested an amount of about US 75 to be taken to the Uber-Black-type ride in Dubai.
Arguing all this up, although the ultimate Dubai Airtaxi Fare structure has not been announced as yet, we may look forward to something in the ball-park of AED 300-400 (≈US $80-110) of short intra-city air-taxi flights when the scale increases, with fares decreasing towards something more like the ordinary ride-hail fares as scale increases.
Why This Pricing Strategy?
The Dubai Airtaxi Fare direction is explained by a number of factors:
- Expensive technology at operational readiness – Electric air-taxi planes and systems (vertiports, charging, certification) are very costly in the present. The RTA recognizes the need to pay a high operating cost per seat at the beginning of operations.
- Economies of scale – The larger the fleet the lower unit costs, battery/maintenance costs, more frequent use, and lower fare rates can be brought nearer to normal ground-transport ride-hail.
- Attitude towards public-transport integration – point made by the RTA is that it is not a luxury, but an extension of the overall Dubai public transport system (metro, buses, taxis). What it means is the accessibility of fares will come into the picture.
Think about making a reservation through an app (probably connected to the existing ride-hail services), walking to a vertiport (say, DXB, Palm Jumeirah or Dubai Marina), handing over to an eVTOL pilot with 4 passengers, taking off, and then flying around the city in just 1012 minutes. The charge would be fared through the app as you hail a taxi today.

During those early days, however, the passengers will be paying a premium as compared to the ground-transport. The point is obvious: not luxury but everyday air-mobility.
What to Watch For?
- Final fare announcement: As soon as the RTA/Joby partnership is closer to the real passenger flights, the final fare table will be released.
- Variation based on route: Fares are probably going to be based on the route length; travelling within Dubai will be much cheaper than fares to the nearby emirates.
- Time-savings vs cost: To most passengers the benefit will be the massive saving in travelling time (e.g., 45 min by road vs. possibly 10 min by air, DXB to Palm).
- Scaling and competition: With more vertiports online and more aircraft flying, there is a possibility of reduced fare and competition (or regulation) that will make air-taxi flights cheaper.
- Technology and certification advances: The speed of certifications of eVTOL aircraft, infrastructure development and expansion of operations will determine price and its adoption by the population.
The Dubai Airtaxi Fare would be that though the exact fare has not been publicly determined, through available indicators, there would be an initial price of hundreds of Dirhams (approximately AED 300-400) per intra-city route, though this would eventually drop to the prices of more premium ride-hail services such as Uber or Careem. Once it is launched in 2026, this would be a daily, though still high-end, commuting choice to both locals and visitors.

When air-mobility finally becomes a futuristic concept converted into a working reality, the Dubai Airtaxi fare will itself serve as a hindrance and facilitator: at the beginning, it will be cost-reflective, but later it will fall and adjust itself in accordance with infrastructure and demand levels. To travellers in the future, it suggests maintaining a listening ear to announcements and considering the air-taxi not as a fad, but as a mode of transport that is going to happen soon in Dubai.
